TRENDS Enhances UAE-China Relations Through Think Tanks Forum Participation
TRENDS Research & Advisory recently took part in the inaugural UAE-China Think Tanks Forum held in Beijing. The event was organised by the UAE Embassy in China. TRENDS praised this initiative, noting its importance in recognising the role of think tanks and highlighting the strong historical, cultural, and economic ties between the UAE and China.
During his address at the forum, Abdulaziz Al-Shehhi, a senior researcher at TRENDS, emphasised that the forum serves as a crucial platform for exchanging ideas about the shared future of both nations. He highlighted the significant role think tanks play in fostering dialogue and understanding between countries and shaping future relations.

Al-Shehhi also participated in a panel discussion titled "Trade and Economic Recovery," organised by the UAE Embassy in collaboration with the China Institute of International Studies (CIIS). He pointed out that despite facing challenges, China's economy is gradually recovering, with notable rebounds in both industrial and service sectors.
He stressed that China's economic recovery holds global significance. As a leading trade partner for many countries, China is a primary driver of global economic growth. This recovery is not just an internal matter but one that impacts economies worldwide.
In another panel discussion titled "Education, Culture and Tourism," researcher Shamma Ahmed Al Qutba from TRENDS discussed ways to connect younger generations with heritage through digital platforms. She suggested creating unique cultural experiences using modern technology combined with traditional content from both nations.
Al Qutba proposed virtual exhibitions allowing young people to visit museums and heritage sites using virtual reality (VR) technology. This approach aims to enhance their awareness and understanding of different cultures. She also recommended interactive online workshops to teach traditional crafts like Arabic calligraphy or Chinese painting.
The production of digital content can further strengthen the shared cultural heritage between the UAE and China. Such initiatives help connect new generations with the history and culture of both countries, enriching their understanding of these rich traditions.
Commitment to Collaboration
Al-Shehhi underlined TRENDS' dedication to collaborating with Chinese research centres. He asserted that such cooperation contributes to a prosperous future for all involved. To support this commitment, TRENDS has established an office in Beijing aimed at enhancing academic and research collaboration.
This new office will support researchers and scholars interested in Arab-Chinese relations generally, with a particular focus on UAE-China relations. By fostering these connections, TRENDS aims to facilitate deeper understanding and stronger ties between the two nations.
The participation of TRENDS Research & Advisory in this forum underscores its role in promoting dialogue and cooperation between think tanks from different countries. Such initiatives are vital for addressing global challenges through shared knowledge and collaborative efforts.
