Turkish Airlines To Strengthen Fleet With Boeing Order For 75 New Aircraft
Turkish Airlines is setting the stage for future growth by incorporating a significant number of Boeing aircraft into its fleet. Currently, Turkish Airlines operates a substantial Boeing fleet, including models such as the 787-9, 777, 737 MAX, and the Next-Generation 737, among others.
The carrier has confirmed the addition of 75 wide-body Boeing 787-9 and 787-10 aircraft, scheduled for delivery between 2029 and 2034. This acquisition comprises 50 firm orders and an option for 25 more, marking a substantial investment in the airline's operational capabilities.
This procurement is part of Turkish Airlines' ambitious Vision 2033, aimed at celebrating the airline's centennial. By 2033, the airline plans to bolster its fleet size to over 800 aircraft, prioritizing next-generation models to constitute 90% of its fleet by that time and reaching 100% by 2035.
This strategy underscores the airline's commitment to enhancing efficiency and sustaining an average growth rate of 6% annually. Such advancements are poised to solidify Turkish Airlines' position as a leader in operational excellence and innovation within the global aviation landscape.

Prof. Ahmet Bolat, the Chairman of Turkish Airlines' Board and the Executive Committee, emphasised the importance of this agreement, stating, "This landmark agreement represents much more than a fleet growth. It is a reflection of our leadership in the industry as well as our dedication to innovation and operational excellence."
Furthermore, discussions are underway with Rolls-Royce and GE Aerospace for the procurement of engines, with an eye on finalizing an order for 150 Boeing 737-8/10 MAX aircraft, comprising 100 firm and 50 option orders.
This step is contingent on successful negotiations with CFM International, the engine manufacturer for the 737 MAX series. This expansion underscores Turkish Airlines' commitment to modernizing its fleet with more fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly aircraft.
The introduction of the Boeing 787-10, the largest member of the 787 family, along with the increased 787 Dreamliner fleet, will enhance Turkish Airlines' long-haul capabilities. Meanwhile, the addition of the 737 MAX aircraft is set to improve the efficiency and flexibility of the carrier's short- and medium-haul operations.
These new aircraft boast a 25% fuel efficiency advantage, which will not only reduce operating costs but also support high-demand routes across various continents. The enhanced cargo and passenger capacity of these aircraft will further solidify Istanbul's status as a key hub for global transport.
This expansion is anticipated to have a positive impact on Türkiye's tourism industry by offering greater connectivity and enabling more long-haul destinations. Prof. Bolat added, "Moreover, by offering greater connectivity and more long-haul destinations, these aircraft will help attract more visitors to discover our country's unique cultural heritage and natural beauty, thereby further strengthening Türkiye's tourism sector."
Stephanie Pope, president and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, highlighted, "We are honored that Turkish Airlines has once again chosen the 787 Dreamliner and 737 MAX to power its future growth."
