Goumbook Announces Top 10 Innovators In MENAT Regenerative Agriculture Program

Goumbook, a renowned social enterprise dedicated to sustainability and climate action, has announced the top 10 finalists for its groundbreaking Regenerative Agriculture Venture Programme. This program aims to foster innovation in regenerative agriculture solutions in the Middle East, North Africa, Turkey (MENAT) region by combining research, science, nature-based solutions, and entrepreneurship.

The program received applications from 18 countries, with a focus on process-driven and technologically innovative solutions. After careful evaluation by an esteemed Judge Evaluation Committee consisting of experts in regenerative agriculture, innovation, and entrepreneurship, 10 finalists were selected to move forward and further develop their solutions.

Top 10 MENAT Agriculture Innovators

The finalists, hailing from the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Turkey, have submitted solutions related to soil health and regeneration, minimizing chemical footprint, diversified crops, technological solutions, and fertilizers. In the next phase of the program, these finalists will develop their solutions into proof of concepts and scale them for impact.

These top 10 finalists have demonstrated social and environmental benefits that are relevant to the MENAT region. Their solutions are rooted in science and have the potential to be innovative, scalable, and commercially viable. The solutions include sustainable water conservation for arid regions, carbon sequestration for future food security, compost production for sustainable agriculture, diversified and resilient farm ecosystems, revolutionary plant growth factors for crop resilience, high-value sesame production in hot and dry climates, customized bio-products for enhanced crop productivity, enhanced plant growth and diversity of microbiome, AI-powered farming bots for crop protection, and the conservation and organic agriculture of olive trees.

Goumbook Finalists

Each of these projects addresses pressing challenges facing agriculture in the MENAT region and beyond, such as soil degradation, water scarcity, food waste, and climate change. Through the integration of science, technology, and organic approaches, these finalists are leading the way towards a more sustainable and resilient agricultural future.

Samantha Kayruz, Goumbook's Strategy & Sustainability Impact Director, emphasized the significance of these finalists and their work in tackling agricultural challenges in the MENAT region. She highlighted the importance of supporting innovators and researchers in developing solutions tailored to the unique agriculture, food security, and climate change challenges of the region.

The top 10 finalists will now enter the next phase of the program, known as Bootcamp 2. This phase will include lead sessions and one-on-one mentorship to further develop their research solutions and entrepreneurial skills. The finalists will also have the opportunity to showcase their projects to a panel of judges and compete for three grants of $10,000 each, along with additional support and potential funding tailored to their specific needs.

The final three winners will be chosen by the judge evaluation committee following a live pitch presentation and assessment. These winners will collaborate with local farmers to implement their innovative concepts into real-world agricultural practices. They will also have access to a supportive stakeholder community to further facilitate their journey towards sustainable and regenerative impact.

The Regenerative Agriculture Venture Programme, led by Goumbook in partnership with HSBC Bank Middle East Limited, Saudi Awwal Bank (SAB), and supported by the European Institute of Technology Food (EIT Food), provides aspiring innovators and researchers in the MENAT region with the tools, resources, and support needed to develop and scale their regenerative agriculture solutions.

Regenerative agriculture is a holistic approach to farming that aims to restore and enhance the health of the soil, biodiversity, and ecosystems. It is crucial in building resilience against climate change, improving food security, and promoting sustainable land use. The growing need for regenerative agriculture in the MENAT region and around the world brings numerous benefits, including improved carbon sequestration, watershed and soil health, and promotion of biodiversity-rich habitats.
