TII And Abu Dhabi Ship Building Collaborate To Advance Naval Technologies Through Innovation Hub
The Technology Innovation Institute (TII), part of Abu Dhabi's Advanced Technology Research Council (ATRC), has partnered with Abu Dhabi Ship Building (ADSB) to enhance naval maritime technology capabilities. This partnership will establish a Naval Technology Innovation Hub, which will accelerate research and testing of future naval technologies like autonomy, propulsion, materials, and secure systems.
Central to this collaboration is the Naval Technology Innovation Hub, a co-funded laboratory environment for developing and integrating advanced maritime systems. The Hub will offer real-world testing environments, a shared technology roadmap, and facilitate talent and knowledge exchange. It aims to provide local and global naval players with opportunities to test and validate technologies in real conditions.

The agreement between TII and ADSB includes advancing joint initiatives to speed up innovation in the naval sector. They will explore emerging technologies such as quantum magnetic sensing, computational fluid dynamics inspired by quantum principles, underwater robotics, and advanced materials like anti-corrosion coatings. The partnership also supports projects in marine autonomy and unmanned underwater systems.
Dr. Najwa Aaraj, CEO of TII, stated, "Our collaboration with ADSB reflects our shared commitment to shaping the future of naval capabilities through science-led innovation. By aligning TII’s deep research strengths with ADSB’s operational expertise, we are laying the groundwork to rapidly transition advanced technologies from concept to deployment - reinforcing Abu Dhabi’s position in the global maritime landscape."
David Massey, CEO of ADSB, commented on the initiative: "This Innovation Hub to Advance Naval Technologies reflects our commitment to positioning the UAE as a leader in global maritime defense technology and innovation. Through focused expertise and strategic partnerships, we aim to set new standards in naval defense, sustainability, and advanced maritime operations."
The collaboration builds on past successful projects between TII and ADSB. Notably, they worked on autonomous unmanned surface vehicles with stealth features and a 170 M-detector unmanned vessel for mine countermeasure activities. These projects combined TII's integration expertise with ADSB's design strengths.
Strengthening Abu Dhabi's Maritime Position
This partnership highlights Abu Dhabi's strategic focus on developing robust defense capabilities driven by innovation. It underscores TII's and ADSB's roles as leaders in advancing next-generation naval technology. Together, they aim to bring innovations from research into practical applications through technical expertise and integration capabilities.
The Naval Technology Innovation Hub will formalise this type of collaboration further by offering a unique model for cooperation among top local and global players in the naval industry. This initiative is expected to reinforce Abu Dhabi’s standing in the global maritime landscape while setting new standards for naval defense technology.
