The Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority (TDRA) recently hosted the "Digital Accessibility" Forum in Dubai. This inaugural event aimed to boost national efforts towards universal digital inclusion. It focused on ensuring that all societal segments, including People of Determination and senior citizens, can access digital technology and e-services. The forum also emphasised the importance of infrastructure that caters to diverse needs.

Key discussions at the forum revolved around fostering innovation in delivering digital services and establishing standards that enhance accessibility across public and private platforms. Participants reviewed international best practices in digital accessibility, highlighting the significance of creating integrated and equitable digital societies.

TDRA Hosts National Digital Accessibility Forum

Mohammad Ibrahim Al Zarooni, Deputy Director-General of the Information and Digital Government Sector at TDRA, stated during his address, "True digital transformation lies not only in technology, but in our ability to ensure that these technologies are available to everyone without exception. Allowing People of Determination and senior citizens full access to technology is not just a goal, it is our shared duty."

Al Zarooni further explained that digital accessibility forms the backbone of successful digital transformation. He stressed the importance of developing strategies and programmes that make digital services accessible to everyone, regardless of their abilities or location. The UAE continues to enhance its digital infrastructure to maintain its position as a global leader in this field.

Hessa Tahlak, Assistant Undersecretary for the Community Development Sector at the Ministry of Community Development, expressed gratitude towards TDRA for organising the forum. She remarked, "This quality milestone serves as a converging point for all authorities concerned with implementing the National Policy for Digital Accessibility."

National Policy for Digital Accessibility

Tahlak highlighted that the National Policy for Digital Accessibility includes seven key provisions aimed at ensuring accessibility for all societal segments. This policy aligns with the UAE's national trend supported by its leadership. The government is committed to launching more enabling policies to create an inclusive society free from barriers.

The forum featured local and international experts alongside government officials and tech firm representatives. Discussions covered various aspects of UAE's digital accessibility policy and explored best practices from organisations like Zayed University, ESCWA, and Amazon.

The event underscored the UAE's dedication to empowering People of Determination through policies facilitating easy access to information tailored to their abilities. This commitment reflects a broader effort towards building an inclusive society where everyone can efficiently access digital services.
