TA’ZIZ Awards Over $2 Billion In Contracts For Key Infrastructure Development In Abu Dhabi
ADNOC and ADQ's joint venture, TA’ZIZ, has awarded engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contracts worth over US$2 billion (AED7.34 billion). These contracts aim to develop crucial infrastructure for the TA’ZIZ chemicals and transition fuels ecosystem in Al Ruwais Industrial City, located in Abu Dhabi's Al Dhafra Region. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to enhance the UAE's economic diversification.
A significant portion of the contract value is anticipated to benefit the UAE economy through ADNOC’s In-Country Value (ICV) programme. This will contribute to economic growth and diversification in the Al Dhafra region. The awards are also expected to expedite TA’ZIZ's efforts in establishing a domestic low-carbon chemicals supply chain, aligning with ADNOC’s ambition to become a leading global chemicals player.
Mashal Saoud Al-Kindi, CEO of TA’ZIZ, stated, "These infrastructure awards are vital milestones in TA’ZIZ’s mission to develop a world-class, integrated chemicals ecosystem to capitalise on growing global demand for low-carbon chemicals and transition fuels. We are well positioned to enable ADNOC’s chemicals growth strategy, while also driving the industrialisation and diversification of the UAE’s economy through the creation of new local value chains."
TA’ZIZ plans to begin production in 2027 with a target output of 4.7 million tons per annum (mtpa) by 2028. The facility will produce various chemicals that have not been manufactured locally before. This will support the production of new construction, agriculture, and healthcare products within the UAE.
Initially, six chemicals will be produced: caustic soda, ethylene dichloride, vinyl chloride monomer, polyvinyl chloride, low-carbon ammonia, and methanol. These products are expected to meet both domestic needs and international demand.
EPC Contracts for Port and Terminal Development
The EPC contract for constructing the chemicals port was awarded to NMDC Group. Once completed, this port will facilitate chemical exports and transition fuels while ensuring connectivity with regional and global markets. Additionally, it will improve access to imported supplies.
The EPC contract for developing the chemicals terminal was awarded jointly with Advario to Rotary Engineering–Abu Dhabi. This includes building storage facilities and pipelines necessary for efficient operations.
Site Infrastructure Enhancements
Al Geemi Contracting received the contract for developing essential infrastructure at the 17-square kilometre TA’ZIZ site. This includes internal roads, security fencing, buildings, power transmission systems, steam generation facilities, cooling water systems, and water supply networks.
The dedicated port and terminal will support exports from a 1 mtpa low-carbon ammonia production facility and a large-scale methanol plant being constructed by TAZIZ in Ruwais. They will also handle imports of key materials required for production.
This infrastructure development ensures seamless connectivity for transporting goods efficiently while providing necessary power for planned manufacturing zones at the site.
