Sultan Al Qasimi Reviews Achievements At Arabic Language Academy Board Meeting
H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, led the Board of Trustees meeting at the Arabic Language Academy in University City. He praised the Academy's efforts in promoting and preserving the Arabic language's heritage. The contributions of scholars, researchers, and coordinators were acknowledged for their role in executing various programmes and initiatives.
The meeting reviewed the Academy's past year's activities and achievements. These accomplishments align with its mission to promote the Arabic language, following policies set by the board in previous meetings. A significant highlight was the completion of the Historical Dictionary of the Arabic Language, a massive project involving 127 volumes.
This dictionary project engaged 13 academies and over 700 experts, including researchers, editors, proofreaders, printers, administrators, and technicians. The Academy also participated in numerous external projects and events. These included inaugurating new headquarters in Mauritania and participating in book fairs.
Additionally, they opened the Hall of Arabic Studies at Al-Farabi University and took part in the Arabic Language Festival at Milan's University of the Sacred Heart. The Academy organised linguistic councils featuring poets and specialists while hosting training courses and seminars on various language-related fields.
The Academy released six issues of its magazine and published a corrected version of "Al-Amali Al-Kubra," based on three handwritten manuscripts. Key events included organising conferences like the Second Sharjah International Conference on Arabic Language Studies in Europe (SICALE), which attracted 24 orientalists and Arabists.
The meeting also updated attendees on progress related to the Sharjah Award for Linguistic and Lexical Studies. Arbitration committees have completed evaluations, selecting winners who will be honoured on December 18 during World Arabic Language Day celebrations.
Future Projects
Preparations are underway for developing the "Comprehensive Arabic Encyclopedia for Sciences, Arts, and Literature." This project aims to create a precise resource chronicling notable figures, terminology, and history related to Arabs and Muslims.
The Academy's dedication to advancing the Arabic language through diverse initiatives remains evident. Their commitment to fostering linguistic knowledge is crucial for preserving cultural heritage while adapting to modern challenges.
