Dubai's Crown Prince Monitors Al Fahidi Fort's Rehabilitation To Preserve Cultural Legacy
In a significant stride towards preserving the cultural heritage of Dubai, H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council, has recently reviewed the progress of the Al Fahidi Fort Rehabilitation Project. This initiative aligns with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, emphasizing the importance of safeguarding the nation's historical legacy.
The meeting, which also saw the presence of H.H. Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairperson of Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (Dubai Culture) and Member of the Dubai Council, marked the approval of the vision and final design for the rehabilitation project. Launched by Sheikh Hamdan in 2021, this project is a testament to Dubai's commitment to blending its rich history with its dynamic future.

Sheikh Hamdan expressed his dedication to protecting Dubai’s heritage, stating that through thoughtful design and visionary planning, the project aims to create an immersive experience that honors Dubai's historical legacy. This initiative is a key component of the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan, which seeks to position Dubai as the world’s best city to live in by focusing on sustainable urban development.
The briefing highlighted various aspects of the project including improvements in accessibility and traffic management around Al Fahidi Fort, infrastructural upgrades respecting historical significance, and enhancements to public spaces. These efforts are aimed at elevating the visitor experience in an area that is pivotal to Dubai’s history and cultural heritage.
Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum underscored the significance of this project in Dubai's cultural evolution. She mentioned that this initiative not only focuses on conservation but also embodies a process of contemplation and rejuvenation. It contributes significantly to the development of the Dubai Historical District and supports broader ambitions for the cultural and creative industries.
The project briefing was attended by key figures including Omar bin Sultan Al Olama, Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy, and Remote Work Applications; Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General, Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA); Staff Major General Mohammed Khalfan Al Muhairi, Director of the Office of The Minister of Defence; and Hala Badri, Director-General of Dubai Culture.
Al Fahidi Fort's history dates back to the late 1700s when it served as a defensive structure for Old Dubai. The rehabilitation project aims to take visitors on a journey through time, showcasing how the area evolved into a trading hub along Dubai Creek. The Fort’s transformation into a museum will offer insights into its architectural vision, historical significance, and cultural narrative, further highlighting its role as a centre of governance and a nucleus for the city’s early development.
Upon completion, the museum will open its doors to the public, inviting them to explore a captivating voyage through Dubai's architectural vision and cultural heritage. This initiative not only preserves an invaluable asset but also invites global visitors to discover the timeless stories of Dubai’s land.
