Sharjah And Sri Lanka Discuss Strengthening Economic And Investment Cooperation
Abdullah Sultan Al Owais, the Chairman of the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI), recently held a significant meeting with Alexi Fonseka Gunasekera, the Consul-General-designate of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka to Dubai and the Northern Emirates. The primary focus of their discussion was on enhancing economic cooperation and fostering investment partnerships between the business communities of Sharjah and Sri Lanka. This meeting, which took place at the SCCI headquarters, was also attended by Mohammed Ahmed Amin Al-Awadi, Director-General of the SCCI, and Fatima Khalifa Al Mokarrab, Director of the SCCI's International Relations Department.
The dialogue between the two parties explored various strategies to incentivize businesses in different sectors. They aimed to bolster the exchange of information regarding investment opportunities and emphasized the importance of private sector entities participating in trade and industrial exhibitions. Furthermore, they discussed cooperation prospects and strategies to promote reciprocal visits of trade delegations. The meeting also highlighted opportunities for holding new business forums and opening new communication channels to enhance coordination between businessmen in both communities.

Abdullah Sultan Al Owais expressed a warm welcome to the Sri Lankan Consul, underlining the Sharjah Chamber's commitment to enhancing cooperation with the Sri Lankan business community. He conveyed the SCCI’s eagerness to explore diverse investment opportunities across various sectors and discover the advantages that Sri Lanka's investment environment offers.
One key aspect of their discussions was the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by the UAE and Sri Lanka to enhance cooperation in civil aviation. Al Owais highlighted this MoU as a foundational step towards identifying promising future investment prospects in Sri Lanka, particularly within the tourism and services sectors. He emphasized that this agreement aims to strengthen bilateral relations, stimulate opportunities for a more diverse range of tourism services, support both countries' economies and tourism sectors, and enhance business sector performance across various commercial, industrial, and service activities.
This meeting marks a significant step towards fostering stronger economic ties between Sharjah and Sri Lanka. By focusing on mutual investment endeavors in key sectors, both parties aim to stimulate sustainable and inclusive economic growth in their respective countries.
