SEWA Advances Sharjah's Water Management With 91,155 Smart Metres

The Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority (SEWA) has reached a pivotal point in enhancing the city's water management system by installing 91,155 smart water meters across Sharjah. This initiative is part of a broader goal to install 125,000 smart meters by 2024, showcasing a significant leap towards modernizing water consumption monitoring and promoting sustainable use. Unlike traditional meters, these smart devices offer superior accuracy and the capability to send immediate alerts to consumers about potential leaks or unusual spikes in water usage.

Eng. Faisal Al Sarkal, Director of the Water Department at SEWA, emphasized the project's alignment with the vision of H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah. The initiative aims at bolstering the city's infrastructure through digital transformation and smart system integration. The installation of smart water meters is a key step in SEWA's strategy to enhance digital efficiency, operational performance, and reduce water wastage.

The ongoing project targets several areas for meter upgrades, including Al Rahmaniyah, Green Community 1 and 2, and Al Noaf areas 1 to 4, among others. The plan entails replacing outdated mechanical meters with advanced digital versions in these suburbs, with intentions to extend these upgrades to additional areas shortly.

This move towards smart water meter installation not only reflects SEWA's dedication to technological advancement but also its commitment to environmental conservation. By enabling precise monitoring and instant leak detection, these meters play a crucial role in preventing water loss and facilitating responsible consumption among Sharjah's residents.

As SEWA continues to roll out these installations across the city, the initiative marks a significant step forward in achieving a more sustainable and efficient water management system in Sharjah. This effort underscores the authority's proactive approach in embracing digital solutions to address utility management challenges while ensuring the well-being of its community.
