Sharjah Self-Defence Clinches Top Spot At Dubai Jiu-Jitsu Championship
Sharjah Self-Defence Sports Club secured the top position in the second round of the Khaled bin Mohamed Bin Zayed Jiu-Jitsu Championship. The event, featuring No-Gi competitions, took place at Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai on Sunday.
The UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation organised the championship, attracting athletes from Youth, Adults, and Masters categories. Elite athletes from leading clubs and academies across the UAE showcased their skills, energised by enthusiastic fans and family members.

Sheikh Suhail bin Butti Suhail Al Maktoum attended the event along with other dignitaries. He expressed pride in the organisation and competition level, thanking the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation for their efforts. "The championship reflects the significant progress of jiu-jitsu in the UAE," he said.
The day-long event concluded with Sharjah Self-Defence Sports Club emerging victorious. M.O.D UAE claimed second place, while Al Ain Jiu-Jitsu Club secured third. The championship follows a ranking system recognising clubs and athletes based on performance across a five-round series.
In the first round held last month at Mubadala Arena in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain Club topped the medal table. Sharjah Self-Defence Sports Club came second, and Baniyas Club took third place.
Leadership Support
Mohamed Salem Al Dhaheri praised the success of this round, attributing it to the UAE’s wise leadership's support. "This achievement is a direct result of limitless support from our leadership," he said. He emphasised that this backing has enabled athletes to excel in various sports platforms.
Sheikh Suhail bin Butti Suhail Al Maktoum also highlighted that such events elevate jiu-jitsu's status locally and internationally. He thanked participating teams for their collective efforts to achieve more sporting successes.
Dignitaries' Presence
The event saw attendance from notable figures including Sheikh Tariq bin Faisal Al Qassimi; Abdulmunem Alsayed Mohammed Alhashmi, Chairman of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation; Mohamed Salem Al Dhaheri; Youssef Al Batran; Ahmed Abdul Rahman Al Owais; Mansour Al Ketbi; Nasser Alabdool; Fawzia Faridoun, and representatives from partners, sponsors, and participating clubs.
Abdulmunem Alsayed Mohammed Alhashmi acknowledged the federation's role in solidifying the UAE’s global leadership in jiu-jitsu. He appreciated their efforts in making this championship a success.
