Sharjah Reading Campaign Promotes Daily Culture Of Reading Through Literature And Heritage
H.H. Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi has launched the "Check in At Sharjah, Stay with Literature" campaign to make reading part of daily life in the emirate. The initiative links books with Sharjah’s identity, targeting residents and visitors, and aims to strengthen the emirate’s role as a leading cultural centre in the Arab world.
The campaign highlights reading as a routine cultural habit that reflects Sharjah’s literary history and present creative scene. It seeks to deepen how people relate to the emirate by using books and stories to express local heritage, while also encouraging wider engagement with Arabic-language content and authors from the UAE.

Menassah Distribution Company is responsible for implementing the "Check in At Sharjah, Stay with Literature" campaign and will introduce a product line that connects culture and lifestyle. Planned items span clothing, hospitality concepts, books, board games and stationery, many of which will feature reading-focused messages and imagery inspired by well-known Sharjah landmarks.
The products will carry phrases such as "Reading Club" and "Read, You’re in Sharjah," alongside visual elements linked to the emirate’s urban and cultural landscape. Through this mix, Menassah plans to expand access to reading resources, increase visibility for Emirati writers and publishers, and encourage people to choose books during their leisure time.
Sheikha Bodour explained that reading is viewed as more than a learning tool; it is also a way to connect people with the memory and character of Sharjah. Sheikha Bodour said reading is not only a means of acquiring knowledge but also a bridge connecting individuals to the memory and spirit of a place.
Sheikha Bodour stated: "The ‘Check in At Sharjah, Stay with Literature’ campaign was designed not only to be an invitation to read, but to be an integrated path to building a deeper emotional connection between individuals and their cultural space, strengthening belonging and enriching the cultural movement in society," she said.
The campaign concept draws on the feel of a calm hotel stay, presenting Sharjah as a destination where books provide comfort and space for reflection. Specially designed items will reference the emirate’s past and present narratives, linking hospitality themes with literature, and positioning reading as an accessible part of everyday routines for different age groups.
According to Sheikha Bodour, the initiative also aligns with the wider cultural project led by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah. It supports long-term efforts to strengthen local publishing, promote literary engagement and sustain Sharjah’s place in regional cultural discussions through continuous programmes rather than single events.
Menassah has positioned the new initiative within its broader strategy to develop the local book ecosystem. The "Check in At Sharjah, Stay with Literature" campaign builds on last year’s "Read, You’re in Sharjah" effort, with a stronger focus on weaving reading into daily experiences, and on reinforcing Sharjah’s established reputation as a cultural capital for Arab readers.
