Sharjah Promotes Emirati Culture At Thessaloniki International Book Fair 2024
Sharjah is set to mark a significant milestone in its cultural journey by becoming the first Arab Guest of Honour at the 20th Thessaloniki International Book Fair (TIBF). The event is scheduled to take place from 16th to 19th May. This participation aims to foster meaningful intercultural connections and promote Emirati culture on a global stage.
Sharjah's engagement at TIBF will include a diverse cultural itinerary. The programme features over 30 panel discussions, innovative workshops, and captivating heritage shows. Additionally, 10 books spanning poetry, prose, arts, and studies will be showcased, all translated into Greek. This initiative aims to create an open dialogue with Greece's cultural landscape.

The delegation from Sharjah will be led by Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairperson of the Sharjah Book Authority (SBA). Representing more than 20 cultural, educational, and heritage institutions from Sharjah, the delegation will work towards fostering deeper collaboration and partnerships between Emirati and Greek entities.
Special Session Featuring Sheikha Bodour
The TIBF will host Sheikha Bodour in a session titled ‘Unlocking Worlds: Children’s Literature and World Book Capitals.’ She will discuss her book "World Book Capital," which addresses the ‘Sharjah World Book Capital 2019’ experience. The session will also feature Anna Routsi, World Book Capital Network Expert, focusing on the impact of children’s literature in raising awareness about World Book Capitals.
Programme Announcement
The Sharjah Guest of Honour programme was announced by Ahmed Al Ameri, CEO of the Sharjah Book Authority (SBA), during a press conference on Tuesday, 14th May. The event was organised by the Hellenic Foundation for Culture in cooperation with Greek publishers to unveil the agenda for the 20th edition of TIBF.
Opportunities for Networking
Ahmed Al Ameri highlighted that the TIBF will offer new networking opportunities for authors, cultural entities, publishing professionals, and literary agents. He emphasised that the event would serve as a gateway to the history of Emirati culture for both Greek and global communities.
