Sharjah Police Investigate Aftermath Of High-Rise Fire That Resulted In Fatalities

A fire broke out on Sunday, 13th April, in a 52-storey residential tower in Sharjah. The building housed over 1,500 residents from various nationalities. Sharjah Police, alongside the Civil Defence Authority and other agencies, are actively investigating the incident's aftermath. The emergency operations room received a report at 11:31 am about a fire starting in an apartment on one of the upper floors.

Upon receiving the alert, emergency police and support units were dispatched immediately. They secured the area and cleared pathways for Civil Defence and National Ambulance vehicles. Traffic was managed to ensure smooth access to the site. The swift action of these teams led to the safe evacuation of hundreds of residents from the building.

Investigation Underway for Sharjah High-Rise Fire

Despite their efforts, five people lost their lives, and 19 others sustained injuries. All injured individuals were quickly transported to medical facilities for necessary treatment. Brigadier General Dr. Ahmed Saeed Al Naour, Director-General of Operations and Security Support at Sharjah Police, highlighted that all specialised teams worked diligently from the onset of the incident.

Brigadier Al Naour praised the effective coordination between police units, Civil Defence, and National Ambulance teams. He acknowledged the Emirates Red Crescent's logistical support, which played a crucial role in speeding up emergency responses and reducing injuries. The forensic laboratory team at Sharjah Police has started investigations to determine the fire's cause.

Specialised units continue their inspections on-site to complete legally required procedures. These efforts aim to uncover all circumstances surrounding the blaze. Authorities remain committed to ensuring safety and preventing future incidents through thorough investigation and analysis.

The collaborative efforts among various agencies highlight their dedication to public safety and efficient crisis management. Their prompt response helped minimise casualties and ensured that affected residents received immediate assistance.
