Sharjah Judicial Department Participates In Singapore Convention Week 2025 To Enhance International Cooperation
Sharjah Judicial Department's commitment to advancing its judicial system was evident in its participation in Singapore Convention Week 2025. The delegation, led by Judge Dr. Mohammed Obaid Al Kaabi, included Judge Dr. Omar Obaid Al Ghul and Judge Hossam Hassan Al Yamahi. This involvement aligns with the directives of H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, emphasising the importance of international engagement and exposure to global best practices.
The delegation's visit commenced with a significant meeting with Singapore's Chief Justice, attended by Supreme Court judges and officials focused on international cooperation and smart judicial applications. Discussions revolved around enhancing bilateral cooperation, sharing expertise in alternative dispute resolution, and integrating modern technologies like artificial intelligence into judicial processes.

Both parties explored ways to bolster Sharjah's judicial system, aiming to enhance its global presence and foster active participation in international judicial networks. The delegation examined Singapore’s Supreme Court practices in promoting mediation and arbitration as alternative dispute resolution methods.
Dr. Al Kaabi expressed gratitude to Singapore's Chief Justice, reaffirming Sharjah’s dedication to evolving its judicial framework. The meeting concluded with an agreement to maintain collaboration across various judicial work areas and technologies.
A highlight of the visit was Dr. Al Kaabi’s presentation at a symposium during Singapore Convention Week. Organised by the Singapore International Dispute Resolution Academy, the event focused on "Building Bridges in Alternative Dispute Resolution: The MENA Region Meets Singapore". Participants included judiciary members from Singapore, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain, and Morocco.
The symposium featured three sessions; Dr. Al Kaabi spoke during the third session about Sharjah’s initiatives to enhance civil and commercial dispute resolution mechanisms and restorative justice approaches. He stressed the need for collective efforts from government and private sectors to achieve legislative goals.
Exploring Training Opportunities
On the sidelines of their visit, the delegation met Professor Nadja Alexander from the Singapore International Dispute Resolution Academy to discuss potential cooperation in training and capacity building for Sharjah's judiciary members and staff.
The delegation also visited the Singapore Academy of Law, where they engaged with its leadership team. They received insights into its departments and training mechanisms while exploring joint cooperation opportunities for training mediators and settlement practitioners.
Dr. Al Kaabi highlighted Sharjah’s eagerness to leverage artificial intelligence technologies as part of building an integrated dispute resolution system. This approach aims to enhance mediation and arbitration processes, supporting multi-path justice aligned with global trends that redefine judicial systems' roles.
