Sharjah Executive Council Establishes Higher Committee For Economic Integration To Boost Economic Development
The Sharjah Executive Council (SEC) recently convened to discuss several initiatives aimed at enhancing the emirate's development. Chaired by H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, the meeting took place at the Sharjah Ruler’s Office. H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi was also present during this session.
One of the key outcomes was the decision to form the Higher Committee for Economic Integration in Sharjah. This committee will develop a comprehensive economic strategy, focusing on both mainland and free zones. It aims to set economic targets and enhance cooperation among government entities to ensure seamless integration.
The committee will be led by Sheikh Fahim bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Department of Government Relations. Members include Saud Salem Al Mazrouei, Mohammed Juma Al Musharrakh, Imad Mohammed Al Ajouz, Dr. Amr Saleh, Abdullah Al Kadid Al Mahrazi, and Abdelshafi Al Ashmawi. Their collective expertise will guide Sharjah's economic growth.
In line with directives from His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, the SEC approved adding people with disabilities to those eligible for medical and dental services under SEC Decision No. (19) of 2022. This decision extends benefits previously available only to elderly citizens in Sharjah.
The SEC also addressed support for residents affected by natural disasters in Sharjah. The Sharjah Social Services Department will provide assistance to homeowners whose properties were damaged due to such events, following specific criteria outlined in the decision.
To qualify for assistance, applicants must be UAE citizens residing permanently in the affected homes within Sharjah's borders at the time of damage. They must also complete necessary documentation as required by the department.
Assessment and Assistance Process
The Sharjah Civil Defence Authority and local municipalities will assess damage caused by natural disasters and issue reports based on approved standards. These assessments must be completed within 15 days after an official announcement declaring the end of a disaster.
If exceptional circumstances prevent timely application submission, the head of the Sharjah Social Services Department may extend deadlines with SEC approval. Assistance values are determined based on case verification reports and tables specifying aid amounts per disaster type.
Additionally, the SEC approved a draft organisational structure for the Sharjah Fish Resources Authority (SFRA). This structure aims to enhance SFRA's operational efficiency through well-defined departments and skilled personnel.
The council's decisions reflect its commitment to improving living standards for citizens and residents across various sectors in Sharjah. By addressing economic integration and providing support during crises, these measures aim to foster a resilient community.
