Sharjah Concludes Heat Stress Awareness Week For Worker Safety
The Salama Training Center for Preventive Training, in partnership with the Prevention and Safety Authority (SPSA), organised Heat Stress Awareness Week. This initiative aimed to educate over 500 private sector workers who perform duties under the sun about preventing heat stress and managing heat-related illnesses.
Engineer Hamid Al Zarouni, CEO-SANED, highlighted the importance of collaborative efforts by all stakeholders. He stressed the necessity for employers and workers to follow legal decisions and regulations regarding work in high-temperature areas. "Organising this event emphasises the importance of concerted efforts by all stakeholders and the necessity for employers and workers to implement the legal decisions and regulations enacted by the state regarding the prohibition of work in high-temperature areas," he said.

The event featured awareness sessions and interactive workshops led by trainers and experts from the Salama Training Center. These activities aimed to promote a culture of occupational health and safety among workers. Participants were encouraged to adhere to health requirements such as maintaining normal body temperature, staying hydrated, and wearing protective gear against direct sunlight.
The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation has issued laws prohibiting work under direct sunlight during summer afternoons. These laws aim to ensure occupational health and safety at work sites, particularly in construction and industrial sectors. Al Zarouni noted that these measures help prevent injuries and protect workers from heat stress.
Al Zarouni further stated, "Through this event, we aim to educate and raise awareness among workers about all aspects of occupational health and safety." He also mentioned that the state has developed comprehensive policies, strategies, and plans to reduce work-related accidents, injuries, and illnesses.
Interactive Workshops for Better Understanding
The interactive workshops provided practical knowledge on how to deal with heat stress conditions if they occur. Trainers emphasised the importance of drinking sufficient water to prevent dehydration. They also advised on wearing appropriate protective gear to shield from direct sunlight.
This initiative underscores the state's commitment to improving workplace safety standards. By educating workers on preventive measures, it aims to reduce incidents of heat-related illnesses significantly.
The event's success highlights the critical role of awareness programs in enhancing worker safety. Such initiatives are essential in fostering a safer working environment for those exposed to harsh weather conditions.
