Sharjah Chamber Discusses Economic Collaboration Opportunities With Rwanda

The Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) is dedicated to enhancing economic connections with Rwanda. This commitment was reiterated during a meeting at SCCI's headquarters. Abdallah Sultan Al Owais, Chairman of the Chamber, met with John Mirenge, Rwanda's Ambassador to the UAE, and his delegation. The discussions focused on potentially including Rwanda in SCCI's annual trade mission to East Africa.

The trade mission aims to open new avenues for trade and tourism exchange while encouraging joint investments in various sectors. This initiative aligns with the Chamber's goal of expanding investment partnerships between Sharjah and emerging African markets. It supports sustainable development plans for both regions by promoting collaboration across diverse economic areas.

Sharjah Chamber Explores Ties with Rwanda

Al Owais highlighted the importance of working closely with Rwanda's private sector to enhance economic and investment ties. He pointed out that promising indicators suggest future collaboration between the two regions is likely. The UAE is already a major source of foreign direct investment in Rwanda, focusing on sectors like energy, infrastructure, healthcare, and more.

Rwanda presents dynamic opportunities for Emirati investments, creating a favourable environment for expansion. Key sectors include agribusiness, oil and gas, manufacturing, construction, real estate, and tourism. These areas offer significant potential for growth and development in the coming period.

Both parties stressed the importance of ongoing efforts to deepen mutual economic ties at the meeting's conclusion. They also emphasised building on the positive outcomes from the UAE-Rwanda Business Forum hosted by the Sharjah Chamber in November 2023. This forum laid a strong foundation for future cooperation between the two regions.

"The promising indicators for future economic collaboration between the two sides are underpinned by the UAE's position as one of the leading sources of foreign direct investment in Rwanda," stated Al Owais during discussions.

The commitment to fostering cooperation reflects a shared vision for sustainable development and prosperity. By leveraging existing strengths and exploring new opportunities, both Sharjah and Rwanda aim to achieve long-term economic success together.
