Sharjah Award For Voluntary Work Encourages Youth To Engage In Community Service
The Sharjah Award for Voluntary Work (SAVW) encourages students in schools and universities to engage in community service. Through the "University Student" award for highest volunteer participation and the "Volunteer Knight" award, SAVW aims to inspire young people to actively participate in volunteering. These awards highlight the importance of volunteering and aim to spread its culture among the youth.
Suad Al Shamsi, Executive Director of SAVW, highlighted that these awards are designed to nurture a culture of volunteerism among young people. She emphasised that volunteering helps students develop skills and a sense of giving, as they are the future of volunteer work. Al Shamsi praised university students for dedicating time to volunteering despite their academic responsibilities.

The "University Student" award targets university students aged 17 to 25 who are not employed. To qualify, participants must document over 100 hours of volunteer work within the year on official platforms. This initiative encourages students to balance their studies with meaningful community contributions.
The "Volunteer Knight" award is available to school students aged 13 and above who are enrolled in school. Participants must complete at least 100 hours of volunteer work through community opportunities. This award aims to instill values of volunteerism early on, shaping students' societal roles and enhancing their skills.
Al Shamsi acknowledged some universities for integrating volunteer hours into graduation requirements, which motivates students further. She also appreciated schools for promoting volunteering within their environments. Such initiatives help cultivate a sense of responsibility and belonging among students.
The "Volunteer Knight" award also includes programmes, lectures, and workshops aimed at school students. These activities are designed to utilise their free time productively, benefiting both the individuals and the community at large.
SAVW's efforts focus on fostering a spirit of initiative and excellence among young volunteers. By recognising their contributions through these awards, SAVW hopes to encourage more youth involvement in community service, ensuring a brighter future for voluntary work.
