SEWA Expands Water Network With Major Projects To Enhance Distribution In Sharjah
The Sharjah Electricity, Water, and Gas Authority (SEWA) has embarked on significant projects in 2024 to enhance its water infrastructure. These initiatives aim to extend main water lines and expand the distribution network across new areas in the emirate. A total of 115 kilometres of pipelines have been installed, adhering to top standards, to meet the water needs of residents.
Faisal Al Serkal, Director of the Water Department at SEWA, highlighted that the expansion included completing water networks in Al Qutaina areas 1, 2, and 4. This project cost AED21 million. Additionally, Basateen Al Zubair's network was completed for AED9.6 million. The fourth phase of Hoshi area development was also finished at a cost of AED9 million.

Moreover, SEWA upgraded water networks in four other areas: Al Yash, Al Ramaqiya, Al Qouz, and Al Majaz 2. These upgrades were completed with an estimated cost of AED6 million. Al Serkal emphasised that these projects are vital for improving water flow and pressure throughout the network while safeguarding water supplies from contamination.
A notable achievement includes installing a main water pipeline to Mleiha Dairy Farm. This pipeline has a diameter of 400 mm and stretches 12,534 metres, costing AED12.7 million. Another significant project involved constructing a water network for Mazaira wells, covering 9,972 metres at a cost of AED4.8 million.
SEWA also installed a transmission line from Al Rafa’a to Al Fisht with an 800 mm diameter and a length of 2.9 km, costing AED8.8 million. Furthermore, a major transmission line from Khudaira area to Hamda station was completed. This line spans 15 km with an 800 mm diameter and incurred a total cost of AED31 million.
Quality Assurance in Pipeline Construction
Al Serkal noted that all new pipelines are constructed using high-quality insulated carbon steel. This ensures durability and efficiency in the water distribution system across Sharjah's expanding network.
These comprehensive projects by SEWA demonstrate their commitment to enhancing infrastructure and ensuring reliable water supply for residents across various regions in Sharjah.
