Saudi Arabia And Uzbekistan Commit To Strengthening Energy Partnership

In a significant development for energy cooperation, HRH Prince Abdulaziz Bin Salman, Saudi Arabia's Minister of Energy, met with H.E. Mr. Jurabek Mirzamahmudov, Uzbekistan's Minister of Energy. The meeting underscored the mutual recognition of energy as a pivotal element in their long-standing bilateral partnership. Both nations have expressed a commitment to stabilizing global energy markets, with Uzbekistan lauding Saudi Arabia's efforts in maintaining the stability of the global oil market. This collaboration is seen as beneficial for both producers and consumers, aiming to foster sustainable economic growth.

The ministers signed an Energy Cooperation Roadmap during the visit, building on the foundation laid by a Cooperation Agreement in the field of energy signed in Jeddah on August 17, 2022. This roadmap is designed to operationalize the areas of collaboration previously outlined, marking a significant step forward in their partnership. The agreement encompasses ongoing cooperation in electricity and renewable energy sectors, including the exchange of expertise and support for Saudi companies operating in Uzbekistan, alongside exploring new investment avenues.

Energy Partnership Boosted

Since 2020, Saudi Arabia has emerged as the largest investor in Uzbekistan's power sector, reflecting substantial growth as Uzbekistan transitions towards green energy. The partnership also extends to meeting Uzbekistan's needs for oil, refined products, petrochemicals, and agricultural nutrients. Both countries emphasize the reliability and sustainability that characterizes Saudi Arabia's contributions.

Moreover, the two nations have committed to developing a resilient and sustainable supply chain for the energy sector. This includes oil and gas, power generation, renewable energy, clean hydrogen (H2), and new carbon capture technologies. Such initiatives are expected to open future opportunities for local companies through exports and joint projects aimed at securing components essential for the energy sector and critical metals and minerals necessary for the new energy transition.

Additionally, Saudi Arabia and Uzbekistan have agreed to share expertise on the Circular Carbon Economy (CCE) framework and Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS) technologies. They aim to collaborate on opportunities related to the green and clean hydrogen value chain, encompassing generation, transportation, storage, and technology development. The partnership also focuses on strengthening cooperation in human capital development, particularly through training technical specialists and engineers, research and development (R&D), and education.

This collaboration between Saudi Arabia and Uzbekistan represents a comprehensive approach to enhancing energy cooperation. By focusing on sustainable growth, green energy transition, and human capital development, both countries are setting a robust framework for future collaboration in the energy sector.
