The Short Film Production Grant is a key initiative of the Sharjah Film Platform, which celebrates independent cinema and moving images. This grant is accessible to filmmakers worldwide through an open call, with no restrictions on age, region, or genre. This year marks the introduction of a new grant aimed at supporting independent Emirati cinema.
This new grant offers an opportunity for one Emirati filmmaker to create new work. Nawar Al Qassimi, Vice President of SAF, stated that the grant reflects their dedication to independent cinema. He emphasised their pride in partnering with ADMAF to support emerging Emirati filmmakers.
Nawar Al Qassimi further noted the importance of providing opportunities for young filmmakers to develop their skills. Collaborations like these are crucial for nurturing a vibrant local film industry. The partnership aims to foster growth in filmmaking by offering resources and support to talented individuals.
Huda Ibrahim Al-Khamis-Kanoo, Founder of ADMAF and Abu Dhabi Festival, praised the role of the Sharjah Film Platform in enhancing professional skills in film production. She highlighted how such grants contribute to sustaining arts and creative industries in the UAE by supporting filmmakers.
Global Competitiveness
Al-Khamis-Kanoo remarked that the partnership with SAF helps build creative capacities among Emirati directors. It stimulates ambitions for global competitiveness by encouraging content creation that appeals to both local and international audiences.
The initiatives by SAF and ADMAF aim to strengthen the UAE's position in the global film industry while nurturing homegrown talent. By providing financial support and showcasing opportunities, they help filmmakers bring their visions to life.
