RTA Completes Traffic Improvements To Enhance Road Efficiency Around 37 Schools In Dubai
In 2024, Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) finalised eight traffic enhancement projects in educational zones, benefiting 37 schools. This initiative is part of RTA's strategy to improve road network efficiency, especially around schools, aligning with the city's urban development. The improvements aim to ensure safety for all road users, including teaching staff, bus drivers, and students' families.
Key areas targeted by these enhancements include Kings' School Dubai on Umm Suqeim Street, The International School of Choueifat and Dubai College on Hessa Street, Al Safa Schools Complex, School of Research Science in Al Warqa 4, Al Qusais Schools Complex, Al Mizhar Schools Complex, Nad Al Sheba Schools Complex, and Al Tawar Schools Complex 2.

The improvements involved widening streets leading to schools and creating more parking spaces for staff and parents. Additionally, school entrances and exits were improved, and traffic diversions were implemented in surrounding areas. Other upgrades included paving parking spaces in front of schools and designating specific areas for safe student pick-up and drop-off.
Hussain Al Banna, CEO of the Traffic and Roads Agency at RTA, stated that these enhancements have improved the road network while maintaining the quality of Dubai’s infrastructure. "These traffic improvements have not only enhanced the road network but also upheld the quality and efficiency of Dubai’s infrastructure," he said.
Al Banna highlighted RTA's collaboration with Dubai Police General Headquarters, real estate developers, and school authorities to study traffic impacts. "RTA worked closely with the Dubai Police General Headquarters, real estate developers, and relevant school authorities to study traffic impacts," he added.
The measures are continuously monitored through periodic assessments to ensure their long-term effectiveness. This plays a critical role in maintaining smooth traffic flow and enhancing road capacity while ensuring safety for all road users.
Future Plans for Traffic Management
The improvements have resulted in a 15% to 20% reduction in school arrival times. This underscores RTA’s commitment to improving traffic flow and increasing road capacity to meet rapid urban growth. "The improvements have led to a 15 percent to 20 percent reduction in school arrival times," noted Al Banna.
RTA plans to continue implementing traffic solutions in school zones as part of its strategic plan. In early 2025, efforts will expand to over 13 schools in key areas such as Al Garhoud, Al Barsha 1, Al Warqa, and Al Barsha South. An operational plan will be developed to manage traffic flow in these areas.
This ongoing initiative aims to reduce congestion further and improve travel times for schoolgoers. By doing so, RTA supports sustainable growth while enhancing residents' happiness and well-being.
