RTA Completes Installation Of 1,000 Advanced Lighting Units In Dubai's Key Areas
Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has finalised street lighting projects in Umm Suqeim 1, Abu Hail, and Al Baraha. This is part of the 2024–2026 Street Lighting Plan, aiming to illuminate 40 areas across Dubai by the end of 2026. The initiative aligns with RTA’s strategy to enhance Dubai’s road network and infrastructure.
The plan supports Dubai's ongoing development, addressing urban expansion and population growth. It aims to meet the aspirations of residents and visitors by making the city’s neighbourhoods vibrant and attractive globally. This involves modernising street lighting systems across the emirate.

Hussain Al Banna, CEO of Traffic and Roads Agency at RTA, stated that they prioritise using smart technologies compatible with UAE’s climate. "RTA has prioritised the use of the latest smart and innovative technologies that are compatible with the UAE’s climatic conditions to enhance traffic safety and security for road users, including both vehicles and pedestrians," he said.
Al Banna also mentioned that these measures contribute to sustainability. In Umm Suqeim 1, Abu Hail, and Al Baraha, they installed 959 poles and 1,010 LED lighting units. Additionally, they laid down 47,140 metres of underground cables to support these installations.
The ongoing projects include various locations like Mirdif, Umm Suqeim 2 and 3, Al Manara, Al Murial Reserve Street, and streets leading to Al Minhad Air Base. These will involve installing 763 poles and 764 energy-efficient lighting units while extending 48,170 metres of underground cables.
Future Plans for Expansion
Other targeted areas include Al Safa 1 and 2, along with streets in Al Hudaiba, Al Satwa, Al Bada’a, Al Wahida, and Jumeirah. "Currently, we are executing a series of lighting projects across various locations," added Al Banna.
The RTA plans to continue these street lighting projects into 2025 and 2026. This ongoing effort is part of a broader strategy to ensure Dubai remains a leading global city in terms of infrastructure development.
