Dubai RTA Completes Traffic Expansion On Al Warqa’a 1 Street In Both Directions
Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority has finished a major traffic upgrade on Al Warqa’a 1 Street, extending 7 km in both directions between Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road and Ras Al Khor Road. Four roundabouts were replaced with smart signalised junctions, with RTA reporting up to 30% better traffic flow.
The scheme also delivered broader infrastructure upgrades along the corridor. Works included 6,600 metres of new stormwater drainage pipes, 324 lighting poles with modern street-lighting systems, and 111 additional parking spaces. Pedestrian paths covering 41,000 square metres were laid, designed to improve safety and support more efficient movement.

Hamad Al Shehhi, Director of Roads at Traffic and Roads Agency, RTA, linked the latest completion to an earlier phase of work in the same community. Al Shehhi said, "This project builds on works completed by RTA in June 2025, which included the construction of direct entry and exit points to Al Warqa’a from Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road to facilitate smoother access to and from the area. It also encompassed traffic improvement works on 13th Street in Al Warqa’a 1, extending approximately 8 km in both directions, to serve Al Warqa’a residents and school users, as part of the project to develop the internal road network in the area."
Those June 2025 interventions created direct access links for Al Warqa’a, aiming to reduce journey times and congestion at key approaches. Upgrades on 13th Street, over roughly 8 km, were focused on serving residential communities and schools, and formed part of a broader internal road development programme for the district.
Al Shehhi highlighted that the Al Warqa’a works align with longer-term infrastructure plans for Dubai. Al Shehhi added, "RTA is firmly committed to developing integrated infrastructure encompassing road networks, street lighting, and stormwater drainage systems, in line with Dubai’s population and urban growth targets. These efforts respond to residents’ aspirations for an advanced urban environment and support Dubai’s vision as a smart and prosperous city that places quality of life and residents’ happiness at the forefront of its priorities."
Further activity is progressing in nearby neighbourhoods within the same area plan. "The development projects currently being implemented by RTA in Al Warqa’a area include upgrading the internal road networks in Al Warqa’a 3 and Al Warqa’a 4. The scope of works involves road paving, the construction of pedestrian pathways and pavements, and provision of parking spaces, in addition to development of cycling tracks. These projects aim to enhance connectivity with cycling routes in neighbouring areas and support alternative and sustainable mobility options."
The scale of recent construction on Al Warqa’a 1 Street is shown below.
{TABLE_1}| Element | Quantity / Length |
|---|---|
| Road improvement length (both directions) | 7 km |
| Stormwater drainage network | 6,600 linear metres |
| Lighting poles installed | 324 |
| New parking spaces | 111 |
| Pedestrian pathway area | 41,000 square metres |
The completed and ongoing projects in Al Warqa’a 1, 3 and 4 collectively target smoother traffic, better drainage and safer walking routes in a growing residential zone. They also support cycling and other low-emission travel, reflecting Dubai’s stated goals on liveability, mobility efficiency and long-term urban growth.
