RTA Completes 45% Of First Contract For Phase 4 Of Al Shindagha Corridor Improvement Project

Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has reached a significant milestone in the development of the city's infrastructure, with 45 percent of the first contract for Phase 4 of the Al Shindagha Corridor Improvement Project now complete. This ambitious project, which spans 4.8 km from Sheikh Rashid Road to Al Mina Street, is set to significantly enhance traffic flow and safety across a key section of the city.

The project, under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and the follow-up of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, includes the construction of three major bridges with a combined capacity of 19,400 vehicles per hour. Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of RTA, highlighted the project's aim to facilitate smoother traffic movement and increase safety along this vital corridor.

The first contract of Phase 4 involves significant construction works, including a 1335-metre-long bridge designed to ease traffic between Sheikh Rashid Road and the Falcon Intersection. This bridge alone will support 10,800 vehicles per hour. Additional bridges will serve traffic from the Falcon Intersection to Al Wasl Road and from Jumeirah Street to Al Mina Street, with capacities of 5400 and 3200 vehicles per hour respectively.

Beyond bridge construction, the project encompasses road extensions, improvements to surface intersections, and enhancements to pedestrian access. These efforts are part of RTA's larger initiative to develop 15 intersections over 13 km, aiming to serve approximately one million people by reducing travel time significantly by 2030.

Al Tayer also detailed progress on Al Khaleej Street Tunnel, a key component of the corridor that will facilitate traffic from Deira to Infinity Bridge and vice versa. This tunnel is expected to accommodate 12,000 vehicles per hour, further easing congestion in the area.

Recent developments under the Al Shindagha Corridor include the opening of several bridges and intersections designed to improve access to Dubai Islands and surrounding areas. These include two bridges on Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street, five bridges at the intersection of Al Khaleej Street and Abu Baker Al Siddique Road, and a main bridge on Al Khaleej Street to support traffic flow towards Al Shindagha Tunnel.

The completion of the Infinity Bridge stands as a testament to Dubai's architectural ambition and commitment to infrastructure development. This bridge not only supports a high volume of traffic but also features a unique infinity-shaped arch that symbolizes Dubai's forward-looking vision.

Additionally, the Falcon Intersection Improvement Project has been completed, featuring two major bridges on Al Khaleej Street and a tunnel for left-turn traffic from Khalid bin Al Waleed Road to Al Mina Street. These developments are part of RTA's comprehensive plan to enhance road safety and efficiency across Dubai.

As Dubai continues to grow, projects like the Al Shindagha Corridor Improvement are crucial for ensuring that the city's infrastructure keeps pace with its development. With these enhancements, residents and visitors alike can look forward to smoother travels and reduced congestion in one of the city's most vital areas.
