RTA Awards AED 633 Million Contract To Enhance Al Mustaqbal Street Infrastructure In Dubai
Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has initiated the Al Mustaqbal Street Development Project. This project, valued at AED633 million, aims to enhance road infrastructure from Za’abeel Palace Street to Financial Centre Street. The development includes constructing bridges and tunnels over 1,700 metres and expanding the street from three to four lanes in each direction, boosting capacity by 33%.
The project will significantly reduce travel time along the corridor from 13 minutes to just 6 minutes. It is expected to accommodate up to 8,800 vehicles per hour in both directions. This initiative aligns with leadership directives to improve urban development and quality of life through better transport systems.

Mattar Al Tayer, Director General of RTA, highlighted that this project is part of a larger plan involving the Trade Centre Roundabout. Construction began in late last year and targets key areas like Dubai World Trade Centre, a hub for international events such as GITEX and Gulfood. The project also benefits Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC), enhancing connectivity across major zones.
The development includes three tunnels totalling 1,200 metres at Al Mustaqbal Street and Trade Centre Street intersection. A three-lane tunnel will handle traffic towards Deira with a capacity of 4,500 vehicles per hour. Another two-lane tunnel will facilitate bidirectional traffic between Deira and Jebel Ali, accommodating 3,000 vehicles per hour.
A single-lane tunnel dedicated to One Central development will support 1,500 vehicles hourly. Additionally, a two-lane bridge spanning 450 metres will aid traffic from Dubai World Trade Centre towards Za’abeel Palace Street intersection. Al Mustaqbal Street will be widened over a stretch of 3,500 metres.
The project also involves constructing ramps for smoother traffic flow at intersections with Exhibition Street and Trade Centre Street. A pedestrian bridge over Al Sukook Street and upgraded intersections along the corridor are included for improved accessibility.
Urban Spaces and Community Engagement
Creative enhancements include upgraded pedestrian walkways, cycling tracks, and decorative lighting for safer streets. Urban spaces are being developed to foster community engagement and vibrant living environments. The project aims to improve connectivity between major zones and metro stations for seamless access.
Al Tayer explained that this initiative is part of a master plan involving the Trade Centre Roundabout development. This critical intersection connects Sheikh Zayed Road with five major arterial roads including Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street and Sheikh Rashid Road.
Parallel Developments
The construction involves five bridges totalling 5,000 metres in length. The existing roundabout will become a surface-level intersection to enhance traffic flow from Sheikh Zayed Road towards various streets including Al Majlis Street for direct access to key areas like Dubai World Trade Centre.
This project runs parallel with other significant infrastructure projects like Oud Metha and Al Asayel Streets Development Project which started in late 2024. It includes upgrading four intersections with bridges extending 4,300 metres alongside developing 14 kilometres of roadway.
The Oud Metha project serves vital residential zones where population growth is expected to exceed 420,000 by 2030. It aims to cut travel time by half from 20 minutes down to just 10 minutes.
Additionally, phases of Al Khail Road Development Project have been completed recently. This included building bridges totalling 3,300 metres long while widening lanes across several locations on Al Khail Road resulting in reduced travel times by about 30%.
