Kuwait International Airport Boosts Energy Infrastructure with Rolls-Royce's Generators
Rolls-Royce is set to boost the energy infrastructure at Kuwait International Airport by providing seven mtu backup-power generators. These 20-cylinder Series 4000 DS 3600 diesel generators will be installed in the new Terminal 2. They will ensure a stable power supply for the catering building, central energy infrastructure, and other facilities within the airport.
The expansion of Kuwait International Airport is part of a broader development plan known as "Kuwait Vision 2035." The construction of Terminal 2 aims to transform the airport into one of the Gulf region's most advanced aviation hubs. Upon completion, it is expected to initially accommodate 25 million passengers annually, with scalability up to 50 million.

The Directorate General for Civil Aviation (DGCA), in collaboration with the Ministry of Public Works, awarded the contract for this project. Limak, a Turkish construction company with international operations, is leading as the main developer for this significant expansion.
The mtu gensets are specifically designed to function reliably under harsh climatic conditions. They can operate efficiently at ambient temperatures reaching up to 55 degrees Celsius. Delivery of these generators is planned for early 2026, followed by commissioning processes that include testing and handover.
Salim El Banna, Country Sales Manager UAE, Bahrain, Iraq & Kuwait for Rolls-Royce's Power Systems division, expressed pride in their products' ability to maintain stable operations at critical infrastructures like airports. He highlighted their effectiveness even in regions with challenging environmental conditions.
Globally, Rolls-Royce secures vital infrastructures with over 85,000 mtu emergency power systems. These systems cater to airports, data centers, hospitals, industrial plants and energy suppliers. They rely on diesel and gas gensets along with dynamic Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) systems to ensure continuous power supply under extreme conditions.
Mtu gensets have been operational at major international airports such as Frankfurt, Dubai, Madrid, Prague, Palma and Hurghada for many years. They play a crucial role in maintaining uninterrupted operations of terminals, baggage systems and control centers at these locations.
This project underscores Rolls-Royce's commitment to supporting critical infrastructure worldwide through reliable power solutions tailored for diverse environments.
