Noor Oil And BEEAH Group's Sustainable Bio-diesel Initiative From Cooking Oil
In a pioneering partnership aimed at enhancing sustainability and promoting eco-friendly practices, Noor Oil has teamed up with the BEEAH Group, a leader in sustainability and digitalization in the region. This collaboration is set to empower individuals in the UAE to contribute to the country’s net zero targets through the innovative recycling of used cooking oil, transforming it into alternative bio-fuel. This initiative goes beyond traditional waste management, presenting a forward-thinking approach to environmental stewardship.
Since its inception in 1985 with the launch of Noor Sunflower Oil, Noor Oil has been at the forefront of promoting health and wellness through its introduction of trans-fat free cooking oils, a first in the Middle East. Under the guidance of its parent company, IFFCO, Noor Oil has expanded its vision to encompass environmental protection and food security. The company is dedicated to fostering a sustainable shift in food systems, ensuring the efficient use of natural resources, and enhancing community life, thereby contributing to global food security.

Turning Waste into Resource
The recycling of used cooking oil represents an important step in environmental conservation. By converting this commonly discarded product into renewable energy, the initiative not only reduces landfill waste but also contributes to a more sustainable future. Rizwan Ahmed, Executive Director at IFFCO Group, expressed the ease with which the public can engage in this green practice. By simply obtaining a UCO bottle from Noor, filling it with used cooking oil, and depositing it in a collection machine, individuals can actively participate in the global cycle of use and reuse.
Steps to Participation
Participation in this eco-friendly initiative is straightforward. Consumers are encouraged to collect their used cooking oil in special UCO bottles, provided at no cost. Once filled, these bottles can be dropped off at designated BEEAH machines located across several key areas, including Sharjah National Park and Dubai's JLT. Participants can then collect a new, clean UCO bottle for continued use in this sustainable cycle.
Impact and Expectations
Rafael Sanjurjo Lopez, CEO of BEEAH Tandeef, highlighted the alignment of this initiative with the company’s commitment to circular economies and zero-waste cities. By repurposing used cooking oil into alternative fuel, the project not only conserves water but also contributes to national and global climate action targets. With the support of Noor Oil and its community, the project aims to attract at least 2,000 participants in its first year, saving approximately two million litres of water. As more individuals join this movement, its positive environmental impact is expected to increase significantly.
In the broader context of IFFCO's sustainability efforts, this initiative illustrates a shift in perspective towards waste, viewing it as a valuable resource for generating positive environmental and economic outcomes. Through the collaborative efforts of Noor Oil and BEEAH Group, the UAE is making significant strides towards a future where sustainability and responsible living are integral to everyday life.
