Emirati Doctors Launch National Initiative To Promote Heart Health Ahead Of World Heart Day
The National Initiative to Promote Heart Health was launched by Emirati doctors at the National Conference on Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation in Abu Dhabi. This initiative, under the slogan "Do Not Miss the Beat," coincides with World Heart Day on 29th September. It is a collaborative effort involving various health institutions and aims to raise awareness about heart health and improve emergency response capabilities.
Dr. Adel Al Shamry Al Ajmi, President of Emirati Doctors and Jaheziya, highlighted that cardiovascular diseases are a leading cause of death globally, with over 17 million fatalities annually. In the UAE, heart disease accounts for 22% of deaths, making it essential to adopt innovative initiatives to enhance medical team readiness for cardiac emergencies.

The initiative focuses on two main areas: community awareness and professional readiness. The community axis aims to educate the public about major heart diseases and preventive measures. The professional axis seeks to build the capacities of healthcare workers, including doctors and paramedics, through accredited training programs.
Dr. Ahmed Samir from the Emirates Council for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation emphasised the importance of this initiative in advancing healthcare standards. He noted that it targets first responders in hospitals by providing training and encouraging unified protocols for healthcare workers.
The initiative includes various programs like national heart forums, a specialised cardiac training program, and mobile cardiac clinics for early detection of heart diseases. These efforts aim to enhance skills in resuscitation and emergency response among medical personnel across the UAE.
Dr. Saeed Al Hindi stated that teams have been designated to oversee this year-long initiative's implementation. The goal is to achieve significant health impacts through joint action between government, private, and non-profit sectors.
Addressing Global Health Challenges
The initiative also aligns with Sustainable Development Goals by preventing premature deaths from non-communicable diseases like cardiovascular conditions. Dr. Al Hindi stressed that addressing these global health challenges requires comprehensive programs designed in partnership with various institutions.
Professor Olivier Jacquin highlighted high blood pressure as a major contributor to cardiovascular diseases. He stressed the need for better detection methods in mobile clinics and improved access to medications to reduce these conditions effectively.
The organising committee of Jaheziya will provide technical support for implementing interventions aimed at reducing high blood pressure and preventing heart attacks through internationally accredited training methodologies based on best practices worldwide.
This initiative represents a collaborative effort between Jaheziya, the Emirates Council for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, and other organisations to prevent cardiovascular diseases by enhancing medical personnel's capabilities in managing these conditions effectively.
