Muslim Council Of Elders Engages In G20 Interfaith Forum To Discuss Faith Communities' Role In Africa

The Muslim Council of Elders recently engaged in the G20 Interfaith Forum in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from May 13 to 14. This event aligned with World Interfaith Harmony Week. The Council participated in the Opening Plenary Session, which focused on Africa's faith communities' role at the G20 Summit.

During this session, Mohamed Bahr, Director of Strategic Planning at the Muslim Council of Elders, emphasised the significant influence of faith communities in Africa. He stated that these communities are crucial for advancing both global and continental priorities. Bahr highlighted how trusted religious institutions can effectively address issues like poverty, inequality, and conflict.

Muslim Council Participates in G20 Forum

Bahr also pointed out the essential role African faith leaders play in tackling food security, climate change, and migration challenges. He underscored the Council's commitment to promoting peace across Africa through initiatives such as Peace Convoys and the Emerging Peacemakers Forum.

The Council is dedicated to fostering dialogue, coexistence, and peace by implementing principles from the historic Document on Human Fraternity. These efforts aim to uphold values that encourage harmonious living among diverse communities.

In another session titled "Sustainable Development in a World in Turmoil: Africa’s Contributions, Africa’s Needs," the Council highlighted Africa's role in sustainable development. They stressed the need for sustainable financing, debt relief, and policies that empower women and youth.

Addressing Humanitarian Challenges

The Muslim Council of Elders urged faith leaders to seek equitable solutions to pressing humanitarian challenges. They called for collaborative responses to ensure inclusive growth and development across African nations.

The Council also showcased its initiatives designed to enhance faith leaders' roles in addressing global challenges. These initiatives aim to foster sustainable development by leveraging religious influence for positive change.
