Mubadala Energy Partners With PLN Energi Primer Indonesia To Enhance Energy Resilience In Indonesia
Mubadala Energy has partnered with PLN Energi Primer Indonesia (PLN EPI) to supply gas from the Andaman Sea. This agreement is a pivotal step for Indonesia's energy sector. It aims to boost energy resilience and reduce reliance on LNG by developing sustainable solutions to meet domestic demand.
The collaboration focuses on prioritising energy supply for North Sumatra and Aceh. The Tangkulo gas field, located about 65 kilometres offshore North Sumatra, holds over 2 Trillion Cubic Feet (TCF) of gas-in-place. This resource is central to the agreement's objectives.

This partnership aligns with Indonesia's strategy to enhance energy security and optimise domestic resources. By leveraging Mubadala Energy’s expertise and PLN EPI’s local capabilities, the collaboration aims to deliver reliable energy solutions for millions of Indonesians.
Abdulla Bu Ali, President Director of Mubadala Energy Indonesia, stated, "This agreement reflects our unwavering commitment to Indonesia’s energy future. By partnering with PLN EPI, we aim to deliver reliable and sustainable energy solutions that meet domestic needs and strengthen national energy security. This is also an important step for our development plans of the Tangkulo gas project in the South Andaman Sea."
The agreement supports Indonesia's broader goals of building a resilient energy ecosystem. It also encourages infrastructure strengthening and diversification of supply sources for long-term stability. The collaboration between Mubadala Energy and PLN EPI is crucial in achieving these objectives.
Rakhmad Dewanto, President Director of PLN Energi Primer Indonesia, remarked, "PLN EPI continues to support the development of new gas fields in Indonesia and welcomes the development of the Tangkulo gas field in the South Andaman Block by Mubadala Energy. This collaboration is also part of the development of a gas supply portfolio for the power sector to support energy security and the energy transition in Indonesia."

The signing ceremony was attended by Djoko Siswanto, Chairman of SKK Migas, who noted its significance for the Tangkulo Project's progress. The HoA sets a foundation for further technical and commercial discussions between the parties involved.
