MoHAP Enhances Cooperation With Partners To Implement National Health Risk Roadmap In UAE
The Ministry of Health and Prevention recently organised a workshop titled "Launching the National Policy for Combating Health Risks in the UAE." This event gathered various stakeholders, including health authorities, to discuss the policy's pillars following its approval by the UAE Cabinet. The workshop aimed to enhance coordination among partners to ensure integrated efforts in combating health risks, aligning with the UAE Centennial 2071 vision.
Dr. Mohammed Salim Al Olama, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health and Prevention, highlighted that this policy strengthens the national response system to health emergencies. He stated, "The Ministry operates within a coordinated framework with all government, private, and academic entities, both local and international, within a framework that enhances the integration of roles and establishes a legislative and executive environment capable of achieving sustainable results."

The workshop emphasised governance frameworks for tackling health risks. It included building social, financial, and administrative commitment. Coordination at all levels was discussed through effective national partnerships and networks. International cooperation was also a key point. The aim is to integrate health into all policies while developing supportive legislation.
Dr. Lubna Al Shaali, Director of the Health Policy and Legislation Department at the Ministry of Health and Prevention, noted that implementing this policy will provide proactive guidance for developing national capabilities to respond to various events and risks. She mentioned it aligns with global practices to promote resilient health systems capable of adapting to future crises.
The workshop addressed enhancing sustainable basic health infrastructure during emergencies. It focused on maintaining vital services and ensuring a qualified workforce is available. Developing interventions for effective risk communication was also discussed. Addressing rumours and providing data for evidence-based decisions were highlighted as essential components.
Dr. Fatima Al Attar from the International Health Regulations Office stressed the importance of accurate periodic assessments of health risks. She indicated that strengthening monitoring systems would improve preparedness and response indicators while reducing mortality rates associated with emergencies.
Comprehensive National Health Security
The policy's emphasis on good governance aims to establish comprehensive national health security by consolidating community participation roles. This strategic tool aids in early detection and disease prevention while ensuring vital services continue under various circumstances. The Ministry's strategy for 2023-2026 focuses on institutional empowerment and infrastructure efficiency.
The workshop also explored strengthening research capacity and managing innovation in addressing various health risks. Identifying expected improvements in the health sector was part of future planning processes for risk management.
Dr. Salem Al Darmaki opened the workshop with participation from numerous entities such as the National Emergency Crisis Management Authority, Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Economy, Emirates Health Services Corporation, Dubai Health Authority, Sharjah Health Authority, United Arab Emirates University, among others.
This collaborative effort aims to adopt a multi-sectoral approach for health risk preparedness and response in line with UAE's long-term vision. By integrating roles across sectors, it seeks to create a robust framework capable of effectively managing emerging challenges in healthcare.
