Mohamed Bin Zayed University Launches Heritage Forum To Celebrate Emirati Crafts And Culture

The Mohamed Bin Zayed University for Humanities recently hosted its inaugural Heritage Forum under the theme "Emirati Crafts - Authenticity and Creativity." Sheikha Rawda bint Nahyan bin Zayed Al Nahyan attended the event, which highlighted the work of Emirati artisans and heritage experts. This initiative is part of the university's efforts to preserve Emirati heritage and reinforce national identity across generations.

The forum aligns with the UAE's vision to protect its cultural authenticity while promoting its values and traditions. It spanned a week and included lectures on significant topics related to Emirati heritage. University professors and experts delivered talks, such as "Abu Dhabi Pearls - Treasures of History and the Magic of Beauty" and "The Emirati Burqa between the past and the present."

Heritage Forum Celebrates Emirati Crafts at University

Workshops during the forum explored various aspects of Emirati heritage, including crafts like sandals, talli, sadu, and khus. Participants also engaged in activities related to making perfume, incense, clothing, jewellery, and more. Additionally, workshops covered Emirati proverbs, palm trees, bile, and date foods.

Dr. Najla Al Naqbi, Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs, emphasised that organising this forum demonstrates the university's dedication to traditional Emirati heritage. She highlighted initiatives aimed at raising awareness among students about their cultural roots. The university prioritises connecting the UAE’s past with its present to ensure meaningful progress.

Dr. Al Naqbi noted that over recent decades, the UAE has experienced significant cultural development while striving to preserve its identity. The university aims to keep pace with these changes by preserving and reviving authentic Emirati heritage through initiatives that engage young people.

The forum served as a platform for discussions on sustainability principles important to the UAE. By linking heritage with sustainability, the university seeks to ensure that progress remains relevant and meaningful for future generations.
