MoEI Initiates AED 750 Million Project To Enhance Emirates Road Capacity And Reduce Travel Time

The Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure (MoEI) has initiated a project to enhance Emirates Road, costing AED750 million. This two-year project aims to tackle traffic congestion and develop a smart, sustainable infrastructure that supports economic growth and improves quality of life.

Youssef Abdullah, Assistant Under-Secretary for the Federal Infrastructure Projects Sector at MoEI, stated that the project aligns with the Ministry's goal to provide practical solutions for traffic issues. He noted it as a crucial step towards achieving the UAE’s vision of an integrated road network that caters to both population and economic expansion.

MoEI Launches Emirates Road Upgrade Project

The project involves expanding Emirates Road from three to five lanes in each direction over 25 kilometres, starting from Al Badee Interchange to Umm Al Quwain. This expansion will boost the road's capacity by 65 percent, accommodating approximately 9,000 vehicles per hour.

Additionally, Interchange No. 7 will be developed with six directional bridges spanning 12.6 kilometres, allowing up to 13,200 vehicles per hour. The construction also includes 3.4 kilometres of service roads on both sides of the main road.

The enhancements are expected to cut travel time by up to 45 percent for commuters travelling between Ras Al Khaimah, Umm Al Quwain, Sharjah, and Dubai. This improvement will alleviate congestion on one of the busiest federal roads and reduce emissions from traffic jams.

Moreover, the project aims to support trade by facilitating smoother movement of goods and services across the Emirates.

Minimising Traffic Disruption

During construction, MoEI is committed to minimising traffic disruption through phased strategies that regulate flow and ensure smooth movement. These include alternative detours and ongoing coordination with local authorities to mitigate temporary impacts on road users.

The Ministry is dedicated to maintaining high efficiency standards in executing vital projects without affecting residents' daily lives.

Community Engagement and Safety

A comprehensive communication plan is in place to keep the public informed about project progress and traffic guidelines. MoEI encourages all road users to stay alert while driving and adhere to traffic instructions.

The Ministry advises following its digital platforms for updates related to the project's development.

This initiative reflects the UAE’s commitment to adopting innovative transportation solutions that enhance community satisfaction while reducing emissions.
