MOCCAE And University Of Sharjah Form Alliance For Sustainable Development Initiatives
The Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MOCCAE) and the University of Sharjah (UOS) have entered into a significant Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This agreement, signed at the University's campus, aims to merge the Ministry's policy initiatives with the University's research strengths. The goal is to advance sustainable development goals through this collaboration.
Dr. Alanoud Al-Haj, representing the Ministry, highlighted the UAE's commitment to addressing climate change challenges. She praised the partnership with UOS as a crucial step in combining public and academic expertise. This alliance is expected to bolster efforts towards environmental sustainability and a greener future.

Prof. Hamid M.K. Al Naimiy, Chancellor of UOS, reiterated the University's dedication to community engagement and social development. He emphasised that strategic alliances with national institutions are vital for providing innovative solutions to societal challenges. These solutions will be grounded in rigorous scientific research.
The MoU outlines several key initiatives, including conservation strategies for endangered mountain flora. It also promotes using native plants in carbon sequestration projects to reduce greenhouse gases. These efforts aim to enhance environmental resilience and sustainability.
The collaboration will also focus on sustainable agricultural practices in mountainous areas using advanced technologies like remote sensing and AI. Improving water resource management and soil fertility are other critical objectives to ensure long-term agricultural productivity.
Dr. Al-Haj stressed the importance of scientific research in developing effective environmental policies. She noted that such research is crucial for mitigating global climate change impacts and safeguarding biodiversity.
