MOCCAE's Nature Guardians Majlis Promotes International Collaboration For Biodiversity And Climate Action
The Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MOCCAE), alongside the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), hosted the first Nature Guardians Majlis in New York. This event took place during the 80th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). The gathering aimed to introduce the Emirati majlis model to a global audience, promoting dialogue and collaboration ahead of the IUCN World Conservation Congress 2025 in Abu Dhabi.
Dr. Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahak, Minister of Climate Change and Environment, opened the session by highlighting the UAE's dedication to environmental stewardship. She stated, "The UAE, with its deep-rooted legacy of environmental stewardship and innovative action, stands as a leading force in global conservation." Her remarks set the tone for discussions on bridging ambition and delivery in conservation efforts.

The Majlis brought together ministers, ambassadors, and nature envoys from various countries attending UNGA 80. Representatives from international organisations like IUCN also participated. The focus was on strategies to address climate change and biodiversity loss. Dr. Amna Al Dahak emphasised that overcoming barriers is possible through unity and multilateral action.
IUCN President Razan Al Mubarak spoke about the upcoming Congress in Abu Dhabi. She said, "The IUCN World Conservation Congress 2025 in Abu Dhabi will be a moment to elevate ambition and turn collaboration into action." Her remarks underscored the need for inclusive solutions grounded in science to secure a thriving future.
The Majlis featured interventions by representatives of Indigenous People, youth leaders, and a UN Representative. An open round followed where attendees could share insights. Hajar Bakhit Alketbi moderated this interactive dialogue, fostering an exchange that highlighted leadership examples for a nature-positive future.
Dr. Amna Al Dahak concluded with gratitude for the collaborative spirit shown at the event. She expressed excitement about continuing these partnerships in Abu Dhabi next month. Her closing remarks reflected optimism about translating discussions into concrete actions.
Future Commitments and Impact
The insights gained at the Nature Guardians Majlis will shape priorities for the IUCN World Conservation Congress 2025 in Abu Dhabi. The event aims to drive significant commitments at the climate-biodiversity nexus. Partnerships formed are expected to advance a nature-positive agenda focusing on resilience, equity, and innovation.
