Ministry Of Economy Partners With SGS Gulf Limited To Enhance Quality Control In UAE Markets
The Ministry of Economy has formalised a partnership with SGS Gulf Limited through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to improve the monitoring of food and consumer product quality in the UAE. This collaboration aims to ensure these products meet top safety standards, thereby fostering a secure purchasing environment for consumers.
Under this agreement, both parties will work together on awareness initiatives targeting the food and beverage sector, cosmetics, and other consumer goods. These efforts are designed to maintain high-quality standards in the local market and boost domestic trade across all seven emirates.

Abdullah Ahmed Al Saleh, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Economy, highlighted that this partnership is crucial for enhancing regulatory frameworks. It aims to provide a safe consumer environment by applying best practices in commercial oversight. This initiative supports the UAE's business competitiveness and economic growth.
Geraldine Picaud, CEO of SGS Gulf Limited, stated, "This MoU represents a vital step towards enhancing consumer protection in the UAE. Consumer safety, satisfaction, and trust are at the company's core business priorities, and we are committed to adopting best practices and solutions in this regard."
The MoU includes plans for workshops at universities and schools to raise awareness about product safety. These educational programs aim to encourage healthier consumer behaviour by informing students about safety standards.
SGS Gulf Limited will also assist in verifying consumer complaints under the Ministry's jurisdiction. This involves random sampling and testing of various products like baby food, cosmetics, and spare parts using advanced technologies to ensure compliance with global standards.
Boosting Global Trade Opportunities
This agreement is expected to enhance the international competitiveness of UAE-made products. By collaborating closely, the Ministry of Economy and SGS Gulf Limited will offer guidance on export procedures. This includes facilitating access to necessary certifications for global market entry.
The signing ceremony was attended by notable figures such as Arthur Mattli, Ambassador of Switzerland to the UAE; Teymur Abasov; Anand Nair; and Muriel Cressot from SGS Gulf Limited. Their presence underscored the importance of this strategic partnership.
The MoU not only aims at improving local market conditions but also seeks to support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in expanding globally. By meeting diverse regulatory standards worldwide, these companies can significantly enhance their international presence.
