Ministerial Roundtable Explores Strategies For Future Global SDGs Implementation By 2045
The World Governments Summit 2025 hosted a significant ministerial roundtable focusing on the future of Global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The event, titled "Envisioning 2045: Inclusive Pathways to Sustainable Development," gathered global and national leaders to discuss innovative strategies and advanced technology for driving the global development agenda. Participants committed to a forward-thinking approach, emphasising strategic foresight and proactive planning for a more inclusive and sustainable future by 2045.
Abdulla Nasser Lootah, Deputy Minister of Cabinet Affairs for Competitiveness and Knowledge Exchange, chaired the meeting. He welcomed ministers from countries like India, Canada, Uzbekistan, and others. International organisations such as IRENA and UNICEF were also present. UAE leaders included Hessa Buhumaid, Abdulla Al Saleh, Razan Khalifa Al Mubarak, among others. The discussions aimed at fostering knowledge exchange between ministers to establish a unified post-2030 development agenda.

Key topics included climate change, technological equity, and demographic shifts. These areas require long-term strategic solutions. The United Nations' SDG Progress Report guided discussions by highlighting the urgency of overcoming existing challenges. The report underscored the need for a global vision extending beyond 2030 to address these critical issues effectively.
Belfor Fabio García Henao from Colombia highlighted the potential of artificial intelligence and big data in eradicating poverty and advancing sustainable education. He stated that these technologies should drive transformative change rather than exacerbate disparities. Mukhtar Babayev from Azerbaijan emphasised partnerships in confronting climate crises through fair solutions implemented at COP29.
Lootah remarked on the UAE's leadership in launching the Ministerial Roundtable Platform introducing 'XDGs 2045'. He said this initiative is a bold leap towards a resilient future. "What was sufficient yesterday will not be enough for tomorrow," he noted, stressing collective collaboration within participatory frameworks to ensure fair development opportunities for all.
Razan Khalifa Al Mubarak stressed that protecting nature is essential for global development success. Francesco La Camera from IRENA pointed out that millions still lack access to clean energy as we approach 2030. He called for urgent action and stronger cooperation to achieve SDG7 goals.
Inclusive Policy Shaping
The roundtable concluded with Hessa Buhumaid urging continued international efforts while integrating all societal segments in shaping future policies. She emphasised ensuring equitable progress pathways for everyone involved. This call aligns with the launch of the XDGs 2045 Global Survey announced during the event.
The survey serves as an interactive tool designed to build the next development agenda on a collective vision reflecting diverse aspirations worldwide. This initiative aims to incorporate voices from various continents and cultural backgrounds into shaping future policies effectively.
