Saudi Arabia Leads Global Dialogue On Mining And Minerals At Fourth Annual Ministerial Meeting

The Fourth Annual International Ministerial Meeting of Mining Ministers wrapped up in Riyadh, coinciding with the Future Minerals Forum. The gathering attracted ministers and senior officials from 89 countries, including 16 G20 nations. Over 50 international organizations and global leaders in the mining sector also participated. Bandar Alkhorayef, Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources, emphasized the need for international cooperation to tackle challenges in the mining industry.

Alkhorayef updated attendees on progress towards establishing a regional network of excellence centers in Africa and West and Central Asia by 2024. This initiative stems from previous meetings of the Future Minerals Forum. The network aims to build capacity in developing countries by training youth for opportunities in the growing mining sector.

The network also seeks to foster technological innovation, achieve sustainability excellence, and improve geological surveying processes. Nine centers form its first phase, coordinated through the Future Minerals Forum platform. The goal is to develop future mining industries sustainably while maximizing social and economic benefits in Africa and West Asia.

Participants agreed on further steps toward a General Agreement on Minerals, including new partnership models based on comprehensive cooperation to boost mineral supply investments. A roadmap was presented to reduce investment risks, urging international organizations to lead this effort. The first phase's results will guide subsequent implementation phases.

The meeting encouraged participants to share ideas enhancing international cooperation and strategic partnerships. These efforts aim to build a prosperous future for the global mining sector.
