Can you explain the significance of the Female Fusion Awards for women entrepreneurs in the UAE and what inspired you to establish them?
The Female Fusion Awards were created to recognise the real work being done by women building businesses across the UAE. We see thousands of female entrepreneurs in our community who are contributing to the economy, creating jobs, and solving meaningful problems, often without visibility or acknowledgement. The awards were born out of a simple idea: women deserve to be seen, celebrated, and supported for the businesses they are building today, not only the ones that make headlines.
What message do you hope to convey by emphasising that the awards cannot be bought and are judged purely on merit?
The message is clear, credibility matters.
We don't believe in pay-to-win recognition or popularity contests. Every finalist and winner earns their place through a transparent scoring system and an independent judging panel. For us, reinforcing merit protects the integrity of the awards and ensures every female founder knows the playing field is fair.
Can you share some examples of the types of businesses or entrepreneurs that have been recognised in past Female Fusion Awards?
This is the first year the awards have been opened to the wider public, allowing any female founder in the UAE to apply. Previously, the awards were exclusive to our Female Fusion community, where we recognised founders making a measurable impact in their industries.
Past awardees include business owners like Nicki Wilson, Founder of Genie Recruitment, who won our Growth Champion award for expanding her business, increasing revenue, and breaking ground in a sector where globally only 1% of recruitment agencies are female-led.
We also celebrated founders like Natalie Hobbs, Founder of Sahara, who was recognised as Start Up Superstar Runner-Up for her early-stage traction and resilience, building a business from the ground up.
These examples reflect the diversity of the women in our community: from early-stage founders to scaling SMEs across recruitment, sustainability, wellness, education, professional services, e-commerce, and more. What they all share is commitment, progress, and tangible business impact.
What unique challenges do you think women entrepreneurs face in the UAE, and how do the Female Fusion Awards aim to address those challenges?
Women in the UAE often face challenges around visibility, access to networks, access to capital, and balancing cultural expectations with business growth. The awards help address this by raising their profile, opening doors to new opportunities, and positioning female founders as serious business leaders. Recognition builds credibility, and credibility leads to funding, partnerships, and growth.
How do you see the Female Fusion Awards contributing to the overall entrepreneurial ecosystem in the UAE?
The awards shine a spotlight on the depth and diversity of women-led businesses in the country. When we elevate these founders, we're helping shift perceptions, encouraging more women to start businesses, and giving the wider ecosystem, investors, corporates, government entities, a clearer view of the talent pipeline that already exists. It strengthens the ecosystem from the inside out.
How do you plan to ensure that the awards maintain their credibility and integrity as they grow in recognition?
We're committed to a rigorous judging process. Each category is scored against clear criteria, judged by independent experts, and reviewed for consistency. Judges cannot assess categories where they have conflicts of interest, and sponsorship never influences outcomes. As we grow, we're introducing even more governance, transparency, and external oversight to protect the integrity of the awards.
What are your future aspirations for the Female Fusion Awards, and how do you envision their impact on women entrepreneurship in the UAE moving forward?
Our long-term vision is to make the Female Fusion Awards the benchmark for celebrating women-led business excellence in the region. We aim to expand categories, deepen industry partnerships, and create year-round programmes that support finalists and winners beyond the awards night. Ultimately, we want to inspire more women to start and scale businesses, and ensure they have the visibility and support to succeed.
