Media In Drug Awareness UAE: Authorities Strengthen Cooperation To Protect Youth

The National Media Authority and the National Anti-Narcotics Authority are strengthening coordination as media messaging gains importance in anti-drug work. During a meeting in the NMA headquarters, both sides agreed that informed citizens, especially youth, are key to limiting narcotics risks and that media channels can shape awareness before problems reach the security level.

Abdulla bin Mohammed bin Butti Al Hamed, Chairman of the National Media Authority, said media is a strategic ally in building a "protective barrier of awareness" around children and young people. Abdulla Al Hamed described media as an "intellectual force" that can redirect public thinking and reduce the impact of misinformation about narcotics and their effects.

Media in Drug Awareness UAE: Cooperation

During the visit, Sheikh Zayed bin Hamad bin Hamdan Al Nahyan, Chairman of the National Anti-Narcotics Authority, received a detailed explanation of the National Media Authority’s mandates. The briefing outlined how the NMA works to align media policies between federal and local levels and to coordinate with national media organisations for consistent messaging inside and outside the UAE.

The National Media Authority’s role includes unifying the UAE’s media discourse on national issues, including narcotics. This alignment supports clear messaging at home and abroad, ensuring that content about drugs, their dangers and related crimes is coherent. It also helps public campaigns reach different audiences through shared narratives and consistent information.

Abdulla Al Hamed highlighted that media responsibilities go beyond warnings about narcotics. Abdulla Al Hamed said the national media carries ethical and social duties to encourage a culture that builds strong personalities, able to judge information critically and make informed choices when faced with drug-related temptations or misinformation from peers or digital platforms.

Abdulla Al Hamed added that, while media shows the serious dangers of narcotics, it also offers space to share positive examples. According to Abdulla Al Hamed, success in the "battle for awareness" is central to preserving security achievements, because citizens who understand the risks act as the first protectors of their homes, families and local communities.

Security cooperation and media and anti-narcotics efforts

For Sheikh Zayed bin Hamad, the struggle against narcotics now includes influence and belief systems alongside policing. Sheikh Zayed bin Hamad noted that the media has become a strategic pillar within the wider national security framework, helping authorities reach households where early attitudes about drugs are formed and where prevention can start early.

Sheikh Zayed bin Hamad explained that anti-narcotics operations deliver best results when supported by public understanding. In Sheikh Zayed bin Hamad’s view, security starts with citizen awareness and ends with personal safety, while media acts as the link to every home. Sheikh Zayed bin Hamad stressed that NANA’s enforcement work depends on trusted communication that reaches diverse audiences.

Sheikh Zayed bin Hamad concluded that NANA’s legal and field tasks are reinforced by media’s ability to present facts clearly. Sheikh Zayed bin Hamad stated that drugs rely on ignorance and rumours, while purposeful media reveals their harm and those promoting them. The meeting therefore highlighted shared commitments to closer cooperation between media institutions and security bodies within the UAE.
