Masdar And Infinity Partner With Egypt To Power 200MW Wind Plant In Gulf Of Suez
The Masdar-Infinity Power consortium has formalised a power purchase agreement with the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC). This agreement aims to bolster sustainable electricity production from renewable sources at the onshore wind power plant in Ras Ghareb, Gulf of Suez.
Upon completion, the Ras Ghareb Wind Farm will have a total generation capacity of 200 megawatts. The plant is expected to produce 810,000 megawatt-hours of wind energy annually while reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 403,672 tonnes per year. This project aligns with Egypt's sustainability objectives.

The official signing event took place at the Cabinet headquarters in El Alamein City. Present were Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, Egypt's Prime Minister, and Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, UAE's Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and President of COP28. Other notable attendees included Dr. Mahmoud Mostafa Kamal Esmat, Egyptian Minister of Electricity and Energy, Eng. Sabah Mashali, Deputy Minister of Electricity and Energy, Mr. Mohamed Ismail Mansour, Chairman of Infinity Power, and several other key figures.
Infinity Power is a joint venture between Masdar and Infinity, Africa's largest renewable energy company. The venture aims to achieve a total capacity of 10 gigawatts of renewable energy projects by 2030. Reaching this target will enable Infinity Power to supply electricity to 12 million homes across Africa by the decade's end and significantly cut carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 15 to 20 million tonnes annually.
Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi, CEO of Masdar, remarked: "Through Infinity Power, the joint venture between Masdar and Infinity, Africa's largest renewable energy company, we are providing the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company with 200 megawatts of clean energy, equivalent to producing 800,000 megawatt hours and avoiding 403,000 tonnes of carbon emissions annually." He added that this project marks a significant milestone in harnessing renewable energy potential in Africa.
Eng. Nayer Fouad, CEO of Infinity Power, stated: "The Ras Ghareb onshore wind farm is a significant addition to our renewable energy portfolio, underscoring our commitment to enabling Africa to become a global leader in sustainable and renewable energy." He emphasised that this new plant is part of broader efforts to develop more renewable energy projects across Africa.
Mohamed Ismail Mansour expressed his enthusiasm: "We are pleased to announce the start of construction of the Ras Ghareb onshore wind farm, a project that reflects our commitment to continuously developing sustainable energy solutions for Egypt and the region." He highlighted that this initiative would not only strengthen their presence in the Egyptian market but also create new jobs for local youth.
Signatories included Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi from Masdar and Eng. Nayer Fouad from Infinity Power. Salah Ezzat from EETC and Dr. Mohamed El Khayat from the New and Renewable Energy Authority also signed the agreement.
This ambitious project represents a pivotal step towards enhancing local impact in renewable energy within Egypt while contributing significantly to global sustainability efforts through reduced carbon emissions and increased clean energy production.
