Experts Forecast Major Transformation In Coffee Industry By 2025 Amid Climate Change And Innovation

The global coffee market is expected to see a 20% increase in value by 2025. This rise is driven by climate change, higher production costs, and supply chain innovations. Industry experts Ahmed Bin Sulayem, Khalid Al Mulla, and Shouq Bin Redha highlight these factors. The World of Coffee Dubai 2025 event, scheduled for 10-12 February at the Dubai World Trade Centre, will spotlight these trends.

Arabica coffee prices have reached record highs recently. In December, Arabica beans saw unprecedented prices on the global commodities market. Robusta prices also surged in 2024, hitting $5,694 per metric tonne by November's end. The cost of high-quality Arabica beans has increased by over 80% within a year, reflecting pressures on both producers and consumers.

Transformation in Coffee Industry Expected by 2025

The MENA region is gaining prominence in the global coffee trade. Events like World of Coffee Dubai are promoting specialty coffee. Last year, the branded coffee shop market in the region grew by 11%, with Saudi Arabia leading at 46% of all outlets. Ahmed Bin Sulayem remarked that the MENA region is reshaping the global coffee scene with its cultural heritage and specialty coffee innovations.

Technological advancements are reshaping the coffee industry. Automation in brewing processes, real-time crop monitoring, and blockchain for bean traceability are becoming more common. These technologies are enhancing efficiency and transparency across the supply chain.

There is a growing demand for health-focused coffee options among consumers. Many now seek functional ingredients like adaptogens, collagen, antioxidants, and nootropics in their beverages. Khalid Al Mulla noted that nearly half of coffee drinkers desire options with antioxidants and brain-health boosters.

Cold brew and nitro coffee are gaining popularity and are expected to become standard offerings in cafes by 2025. Al Mulla highlighted an increasing demand for café culture in countries such as the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and Kuwait.

Sustainability and Customisation

Consumers increasingly want personalised coffee experiences tailored to their tastes and dietary needs. Brands are responding by offering customisable options to meet these demands.

Sustainability is becoming essential in the coffee industry as consumers seek eco-friendly and ethically sourced products. Brands are adopting sustainable practices like compostable packaging and third-party certifications to build customer loyalty. Shouq Bin Redha stated that sustainability is now an expectation rather than an option for brands aiming to lead the future of coffee.

The upcoming World of Coffee Dubai event promises to be significant for showcasing trends and innovations in the industry. With the MENA market projected to reach US$11.5 billion by 2025, its role in shaping global coffee dynamics is undeniable.
