Lesotho Seeks To Enhance Technology Cooperation With UAE For Digital Transformation
Nthati Moorasi, Minister of Communications, Science, and Technology in Lesotho, expressed her country's eagerness to collaborate with technologically advanced nations. The UAE is a key partner in supporting Lesotho's digital transformation. During the World Government Summit, she highlighted the importance of such partnerships for their digital journey.
Lesotho is at the beginning of its digital transformation. The government is prioritising infrastructure development and enhancing citizens' skills, especially among women, children, and youth. Initiatives include digitising schools by providing computers and internet access.

The minister noted that Lesotho plans to establish training centres in all 10 districts soon. Currently, there is one centre aimed at empowering women to engage with modern technologies. Women are expected to comprise 51 percent of the population shortly.
Despite these efforts, only 7 percent of women currently benefit from these initiatives. The government is working to expand training opportunities and increase female participation in technology-related fields.
Moorasi emphasised the significance of collaborating with countries like the UAE, which has made notable strides in technology and digitalisation. She cited the ease of obtaining an online UAE visa as an example of their digital progress.
To bridge the digital gap between Lesotho and more advanced nations, Moorasi stressed the need for strengthening international partnerships. By leveraging successful experiences from other countries, Lesotho aims to enhance its technological capabilities.
The minister also mentioned that significant investments are being made in Lesotho's technology sector. These investments aim to support the country's digital initiatives and foster growth within this field.
Lesotho's commitment to advancing its digital landscape reflects a broader strategy to improve infrastructure and empower its citizens through technology. The focus remains on creating opportunities for all segments of society.
