H.H. Sheikha Latifa Bint Mohammed Explores Downtown Design During Dubai Design Week

H.H. Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairperson of Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, recently visited Downtown Design. This event is a key part of the 11th Dubai Design Week. It is organised in partnership with Dubai Design District (d3) and supported by Dubai Culture. The fair is a major platform for showcasing contemporary design in the Middle East.

Downtown Design serves as a hub for both local and international designers to present the latest trends in furniture, lighting, and product design. The event strengthens Dubai's reputation as a global centre for creativity and innovation. It also fosters collaboration and knowledge exchange between emerging talents and established professionals in the design industry.

H.H. Sheikha Latifa emphasised the fair’s importance in nurturing talent and entrepreneurship. She noted that such initiatives help transform creative ambitions into sustainable economic opportunities. This supports Dubai's position as a global hub for the creative economy by opening new investment avenues.

During her visit, H.H. Sheikha Latifa met with several designers and exhibitors at the fair. She praised their innovative designs across various categories, including furniture, lighting, contemporary art pieces, and accessories. Her tour included viewing projects from renowned names like Huda Lighting, Kartell, Kohler, Poltrona Frau, Obegi Home, Venini, Roche Bobois, Stellar Works, Calico Wallpaper, Porada, and Desalto.

The tour also highlighted works by Finasi from the UAE and Strata by Pakistani designers Yousaf Shahbaz and Saira Ahsan. H.H. Sheikha Latifa visited Designed in Saudi by Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Culture's Architecture and Design Commission. Additionally, she explored 1971 Design Space from Sharjah featuring innovative materials by Lina Ghalib and Nuhayr Zein.

H.H. Sheikha Latifa was informed about Tashkeel's annual Tanween Design Programme and MAKE's Makers’ Furniture Fellowship from Abu Dhabi participating for the first time this year. These programmes are crucial for developing local talent through hands-on experience in design and business development.

Immersive Experiences

The fair featured immersive environments like the Solaire Lounge by Veuve Clicquot with Marcel Poulain Studio and an exclusive Buccellati Lounge designed by david/nicolas showcasing refined craftsmanship. Styled Habitat collaborated with Nordic Homeworx on an installation while Cosentino presented a hospitality installation designed by Studio Etéreo.

H.H. Sheikha Latifa also toured ‘The Forum’, which gathers leading thought leaders globally and regionally to discuss design trends. Editions Art and Design displayed limited-edition works created by visionary talents worldwide.

The UAE Designer Exhibition was another highlight of her visit. Supported by Dubai Culture under designer Nada Debs' mentorship, it helps emerging designers integrate local identity into modern craftsmanship while addressing market needs sustainably.

This year's Downtown Design has once again demonstrated its role as a vital platform for showcasing creativity in the Middle East while supporting emerging talents through various initiatives aimed at fostering growth within the creative economy sector.
