Khalifa University Showcases UAE-Led Healthcare Innovations At Abu Dhabi Global Health Week 2025
Khalifa University of Science and Technology's College of Medicine and Health Sciences (CMHS) is actively participating in the Abu Dhabi Global Healthcare Week (ADGHW) 2025. This event, organised by the Department of Health - Abu Dhabi, highlights the university's role in life sciences and translational medicine. The university will showcase advanced research initiatives and national health programmes focusing on healthy aging and precision health.
The university plans to unveil ten innovations, including 'CareX', an AI-driven system aiding remote diagnosis and chronic disease management. Another innovation is '3D-printed polymeric knee implants' that replicate human bone, a pioneering effort in UAE biomedical design. These projects underscore Khalifa University's commitment to advancing healthcare through technology.

Professor Habiba Alsafar, Dean of CMHS, will participate in a panel discussion titled 'Novel Therapeutic Strategies for Healthy Longevity' on the first day. Dr. Mira Mousa, Assistant Professor of Public Health and Epidemiology, will moderate this session. Professor Alsafar stated, "Participating in the ADGHW 2025 reflects Khalifa University's continued commitment to global collaboration and innovation. The Emirati Reference Genome Project aims to develop a population-specific genome reference for the UAE. Additionally, a One Health genomics study is tracking antimicrobial resistance spread. These projects align with national health priorities by addressing critical genomic challenges.
Another significant project examines neurodegenerative diseases in children with autism spectrum disorder. This research could lead to better understanding and treatment options for affected individuals. The Maternal and Infant Health Monitoring System is another highlight, currently operational in 18 hospitals across Abu Dhabi.
Expanding Educational Opportunities
Khalifa University's CMHS is expanding its educational offerings with new PhD programmes and more master's courses. ISO-accredited research labs support these academic advancements alongside growing biotech startups. These efforts are crucial for shaping the UAE's research landscape.
Other notable innovations include FallGuard, a wearable device that detects falls in real-time and alerts caregivers promptly. Bioelectronic Chips offer precision diagnostics capabilities, while IGenRare serves as an AI assistant for diagnosing rare diseases more accurately.
Camel milk's anti-diabetic properties are also being explored as part of Khalifa University's diverse research portfolio. These projects reflect a broad commitment to improving healthcare outcomes through innovative solutions.
