Khalifa University To Introduce Cooperative Education Courses For Engineering And Computing Students In Fall 2026
Khalifa University of Science and Technology has revealed plans to introduce Cooperative Education (Co-op) courses starting in Fall 2026. These courses will blend academic learning with practical experience in engineering and computing. Each co-op term will last six months, with the initial term offering two credits. To apply, students need a CGPA of 3.25 and at least 75 credits, while 90 credits are required to begin.
Students must commit full-time, adhere to guidelines, and complete 26 weeks with their assigned organisation, either on-site or in offices. The programme aims to bridge classroom knowledge with real-world engineering challenges through supervised work placements. This approach helps students gain workplace skills and explore career paths.

The launch event at the Main Campus featured a panel discussion led by Maryam Alkindi, Director of Student Success and Alumni Services. Participants included Professor Ehab El-Sadaany, Dean of the College of Engineering and Physical Sciences, an industry representative, and two Co-op alumni from Waterloo University. Attendees earned community service hours for participating.
Professor Bayan Sharif, Provost at Khalifa University, stated that the co-op course demonstrates their commitment to equipping students with additional skills during their studies. "The launch of the co-op course reflects our strong commitment to helping students acquire additional skills during their campus life," he said. The programme alternates between study and work periods, forming partnerships among students, institutions, and employers.
Through competitive placement processes, students learn to evaluate their skills, craft résumés, and navigate interviews successfully. Work experiences help them refine employability skills and understand career opportunities within their fields of study.
The programme also aids in developing professional skills like communication, teamwork, and problem-solving while exposing students to professional expectations and culture. It allows exploration of career interests and industry sectors while enhancing employability through practical experience.
Khalifa University is proud to initiate such an arrangement that facilitates employability and financial support for students while offering employers access to talented individuals at reduced recruitment costs. This initiative supports workforce development as part of the UAE's knowledge-economy transformation efforts.
The co-op courses aim to enrich a student's academic journey by integrating practical application into program delivery. Students gain a deeper understanding of their academic programs through hands-on experience in real-world settings.
This initiative not only benefits students but also provides employers with access to skilled talent pools while contributing to workforce development goals in line with national objectives.
