Jordan Refuses Troop Deployment To Gaza, Seeks Just Peace Deal
Jordan will not deploy troops to Gaza to replace Israeli forces, said Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Ayman Safadi. He made this statement during a joint press conference in Athens with Greek Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis.
Safadi stressed the need for a fair agreement that ensures a lasting ceasefire and the release of all Israeli and Palestinian prisoners. He highlighted this as a crucial step towards addressing the humanitarian crisis in Gaza caused by ongoing aggression.

Responding to questions about peace in the region, US President Joe Biden's plan, and Arab involvement in Gaza, Safadi reiterated Jordan's stance. "A ceasefire is a permanent demand for us and our partners in the international community," he said. He acknowledged efforts by Egypt, Qatar, and the United States to broker a deal but noted Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's recent comments opposing a ceasefire.
"We want a comprehensive plan not only to stop the war but also to reach a just, comprehensive and lasting peace based on the two-state solution," Safadi emphasised. He stated that any approach treating Gaza separately from other occupied Palestinian territories is unacceptable.
Safadi called for immediate action to halt the aggression on Gaza and de-escalate tensions in the West Bank. He urged respect for international law and the UN Charter while advocating for an action plan aimed at achieving a two-state solution with clear timelines.
"The danger of expanding the war is real and increasing," Safadi warned. He stressed that stopping the aggression on Gaza is essential to prevent further escalation.
During his remarks, Safadi also appreciated international efforts aimed at reaching an exchange agreement to achieve a ceasefire. However, he pointed out that Netanyahu's stance contradicts Biden's initiative for peace.
Safadi concluded by urging all parties to work towards ending the humanitarian catastrophe imposed by the aggression on Gaza. He reiterated Jordan's commitment to supporting every effort aimed at achieving lasting peace in the region.
