Jordan Urges Arab League To Convene Emergency Meeting Over Israeli Knesset's UNRWA Restrictions

Jordan has urged the Arab League to convene an emergency meeting. This request comes in response to new Israeli Knesset laws that limit the operations of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) in occupied Palestinian territories. Jordan aims to discuss strategies to counter these "invalid" laws and gather international backing to nullify them, as reported by the Jordan News Agency (PETRA).

The spokesperson for the Ministry, Sufian Qudah, highlighted that Jordan's ambassador in Cairo and its permanent representative to the Arab League have been instructed to engage with the General Secretariat. The goal is to organise an urgent meeting of the Arab League Council at the level of permanent delegates. This meeting will focus on devising a joint Arab strategy to address these "illegal laws."

Jordan Calls for Arab League Meeting on UNRWA

Qudah emphasised that this call for a meeting is part of a broader set of actions and communications. Jordan is working closely with other Arab nations to oppose Israeli measures against Palestinians. He warned about the severe consequences if Israel continues its campaign of false allegations aimed at undermining UNRWA's efforts.

He further noted that these measures are obstructing UNRWA's ability to deliver essential services and humanitarian aid. This situation is exacerbated by what he described as an unprecedented catastrophe due to Israeli aggression in Gaza, along with increasing tensions in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.

Jordan is actively coordinating with Arab countries to ensure protection for Palestinians and support UN organisations, particularly UNRWA. The focus is on safeguarding relief agencies amid escalating challenges in Palestinian territories.

Qudah reiterated Jordan's commitment to mobilising international support against these Israeli actions. He stressed the importance of protecting both Palestinians and international relief efforts from political attacks designed to weaken their impact.

The situation remains tense as Jordan seeks collective action from Arab nations. The aim is not only to protect Palestinian rights but also to maintain stability in the region through coordinated diplomatic efforts.
